  • It was ok

As a prequel to the series, this book takes place thirteen years before the events of the first Maze Runner book. Immediately, the reader is thrown into the action with the attack on Mark’s settlement taking place. The confusion as to the nature of the virus is present throughout, and the desperation to find a cure before they die is intense. While this book does provide more insight to the contagious Flare virus and the beginnings of the destruction of humanity, I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I had hoped. There was plenty of action throughout the book, and I was never bored of reading it, I just didn’t like it as much as I had expected. I would read this book again, however, as I did like the insight we get into the development of the Flare virus and the world prior to the Maze trials. Overall, this book is filled with action and insight, but I just didn’t find it as enjoyable as I had expected.
