  • Good premise. Disappointing delivery

I felt like I was reading an initial, unedited draft. The concept of introducing Fidelma was wonderful. Instead the writing was shallow, with little development of character or motivation, especially of our protagonist. Bits of good writing but most of it was flat. Could have been fabulous if the author had given more time and effort to filling out the people in the story, including Fidelma and all her suspects. Felt like the author didn't know Fidelma, or was tired of her.

  • More interesting in terms of history, not plot.

This was my first Fidelma mystery. Mr. Tremayne''s knowledge of Irish history is evident, however, the plot is super simplistic and the constant use of Gaelic Irish becomes annoying (that, from one who is 3/4 Irish and has a very basic knowledge of pronunciation!) I'm not moved to read another Fidelma story and, being also part Welsh, will maintain my loyalty to Cadfael!

  • Ok read

That was my first book in this series and I have to admit that I’m of two minds about it. On the one hand, I appreciated the description of the period and the way of life but on the other hand, I found Fidelma not very endearing and borderline pedantic with the constant repeating of her titles. I’m not saying that I won’t read more books in this series but it might not be in my top ten list to read more. Unless, in future books, Fidelma looses the repeating of her title and the nearly pedantic attitude.

    Thanks for your feedback!

  • Another great read

I absolutely love these books and reading about Sister Fidelma and her adventures. I can’t wait to read more.
