    Thanks for your feedback!

    Poetic prose/masterful juxtiposition

Smith wove 2 time periods together along with vivid portrayals of 2 women artists and did so with a mastery that sings true, but never feels fussy. The 1600s in Holland is rendered with an artist's exquisite detail

    A good book club read.

We read this book for my book club. All ten of our club's members liked the book, which is unusual for any group, I think. It still made for a lot of discussion about the plight of women artists and the control this group of men had over who could sell their paintings to whom. Not to mention never signing your own art with your real name. We all thought it was very well written and an interesting story, with the exception of a few of us who thought some parts were either too glossed over or repetitive.
