    The Last Runaway

Enjoyed this, but not my favourite Tracey Chevalier. Operates on fine detail for most of book so that wham bam ending jarred for me.

    The last runaway

I enjoyed this book. It immerses you in the life and culture of the period with this author's usual finely polished and elegant style of expression. Not fancy or artificial. As a Quaker myself I felt the descriptions of the experiences Honour has in Meetings reflected my own. Part of the beauty of the writing is in the things implied but not directly said, which draws you in to more deeply understanding the characters and situations. The plot whilst enjoyable left me marginally unsatisfied at the end. But only marginally. And for all the other wonderful things about it this book is worth reading.
