  • Will Appeal to Many Readers

This delightful romance is a gem. Even the most minor characters are developed with complexity and depth. The portrayal of Brittany is inviting. (I am checking flights now.) The mystical elements are surprising, but most appropriate. I believe this will appeal to a wide variety of readers.

  • Beautiful Read!

The Little French Bistro By Nina George I’m still uncertain about my rating! A good read but how to rate it? A low 3.5 to a high 4. I both loved the book and hated it! I loved the dialogues between the characters and the storylines, however, I hated the “verbosity” of the descriptions. I almost gave up on the book but then some of the events and dialogues had me giggling and kept me reading. Marianne, the main character has been married to Lothar for 40 years. He is controlling and selfish. During a trip to Paris with her husband, Marianne decides to end her life. Before she can do so, she is saved and placed in a mental hospital. Here she finds a painted tile of the beautiful town of Kerdurk, in Brittany. She feels drawn to the town and after escaping the mental hospital, she goes there. Here she meets a variety of characters and finds employment as cook at an Auberge/Hotel. Do you stay with what you know or take the leap into the unknown? Can you be brave and try to find love again? Can you find someone who shows his love for you? I generally find most French and European authors to be very descriptive in their writing and I’m not fond of it. I do, however, enjoy dialogue and the interactions between the characters. On reflection, I found the book interesting and enjoyed the ending which was what I had hoped for. The book is rich with Breton’s folklores and I loved the various characters. I can just imagine them in my mind's eye. For those reasons, I’ll give The Little French Bistro 4 stars. Well done!, Bravo!, Gut gemacht! Nina.

  • Give Me More

My expectations of Little French Bistro were set high because I enjoyed Little Paris Bookshop so much. However, this one fell short. I loved reading about Brittany, with its own lingo and fairytales, but I was left wanting more. Tell me more about the bistro; what do the cottages look like? Also I found myself frustrated with vacillations of Marianne. I was surprised the villagers loved her so much, for example. For readers who enjoy this book, I recommend the series about Bruno, Chief of Police, written by Martin Walker. Much more satisfying.

  • The Little French Bistro

Everything a novel should be. Poetic. Insightful. Tender. Redemptive. A novel should expose the human heart and leave the reader wiser and kinder. Thank you Nina George.
