  • Sinuous, devious, and compulsive!

The Look-Alike is an eerie, suspenseful thriller that takes us into the life of Sienna Scott, a young woman who finds herself back in her hometown of Tranquility Bluffs, Wisconsin after being sent away ten-years previous to protect her from her mother’s declining mental health, the aftermath of her discovery of a brutally murdered fellow college student, and the potential threat of a killer who may have mistakenly killed the wrong victim the first time around. The prose is dark and intense. The characters are anxious, afraid, consumed, and secretive. And the plot, including all the subplots, intertwine and unravel quickly into an engrossing tale of life, loss, deception, manipulation, obsession, mental illness, complex familial drama, multiple suspects, violence, murder, and a touch of romance. Overall, The Look-Alike is a taut, menacing, clever tale by Spindler that ultimately keeps you riveted, surprised, entertained, and guessing from start to finish.

  • Another Masterpiece Thriller by Erica Spindler

I received an ARC of The Look A-Like by Erica Spindler, and loved every page turning minute of it. It was an outstanding book and Erica Spindler is an amazing storyteller. The Look A-Like is the story of Sienna Scott and her return home to Tranquility Bluffs, Wisconsin from London, where she has been for the last ten years. The story takes place in current day, but some chapters detail the events from ten years ago. Ten years ago, when Sienna was a freshmen in college, she found the body of a fellow student, Madison Robie, who had been murdered on campus. Sienna believed that Madi was murdered instead of her, same color coat along the path that Sienna took to her dorm after study group. Sienna's mother, Vivienne suffers from mental illness. Sienna's father, Dan sent her to London to live with his mother, because he was concerned about Sienna's mental health. Upon her arrival home, Sienna hears that Madison Robie's murder case has been reopened. Sienna soon notices the new neighbor across the street, Jonathan Hart. He is fixing up the house to flip it. Sienna and Jonathan become romantically involved and Sienna believes she is falling in love with him. That is until Sienna does the unthinkable and accuses him of murdering Madi. As the police get closer to solving the murder everyone is a suspect, including Sienna's mother, and half brother, Brad. Love how Erica always keeps you guessing who did it. Not sure how many times I flip flopped between Jonathan, Brad, Vivienne, and Randy, campus police officer first on the scene of Madi's murder and now a detective for the Tranquility Bluffs Police Department. Love the details and all the characters in the story. It was a phenomenal story. So happy that The Look A-Like includes my favorite surprises and plot twists that I have come to expect in Erica Spindler's books. She truly did not disappoint. I loved the ending, wasn't sure how she was going to tie it all together, but she did it magnificently.

  • great read!

I guessed the murderer long before the reveal but not from the beginning. Sienna Scott's biggest fear is that she is like her mother - mentally unstable. When Sienna stumbles upon a recently murdered student wearing the same outerwear Sienna is wearing her father sends her to London to get away from the trauma. Ten years later Sienna comes home to relieve her brother, Brad, and help her mother. Suddenly Sienna is getting phone calls and surveillance drive-bys as Tranquility Bluff Police Dept reopens the cold case of murdered Madison Robie. Fast-paced, page-turner. I volunteered to read an ARC from St. Martin's Press through Net Galley.

  • Thrills and Suspense

What a great book. The thrills and suspense are guaranteed to keep you reading while the twists and turns will keep you guessing at what is going to happen next. I loved how easy it was to follow the storyline as it told the story in the present time and the story from the past. The stories twisted together perfectly without missing a step and took the reader on one wonderful, twisted, thrilling ride. One of my favorite things about Erica Spindler’s book is the location that sets her books. I am from the Midwest, right near Rockford, IL, and that is an area that is mentioned in her books often. She talks about places that are familiar to me, things that we are known for (sock monkeys), and towns that are nearby. I love when I read a book and can see where the book is taking place. I’d recommend picking up your own copy of The Look-Alike and enjoying the ride Erica Spindler takes you on.
