    Enjoy unfolding fantasy landscape

This story captures the magic of an unfolding world view from the viewpoint of a child growing up, albeit in a dangerous and alien environment. The viewpoint from this perspective is accepting of what is and we follow this journey with Riley through to her teens with our own understanding of this fantasy world growing with her. I found the Riley character adorable and loved the depiction of her early years. All against a background of menace that can be felt but not understood. In the latter half of the book we start to see what this menace is and where it is coming from. Although in a world fractured by past and partially forgotten wars, there are several dangers for Riley and Aerlid, the moon singer. As the story progresses we are introduced to 4 other peoples and their cultures, and they all are very different. I particularly liked the way the writing style changed slightly when the storyline involved each culture so that the feeling I had as a reader moved with my mind. This is well worth the read. suitable all fantasy lovers.

    Original story line

I liked that this book had no magicians :) just kidding. This story line is original and creative while not being overly complex. The early parts of the book are about creating the world as viewed from Riley, the main character. The pace picks up as the book progresses and the world becomes more complex, and the fighting starts. Loved the unlovable Mixed. Good read.

    Vivid characters

A very interesting and creative story here with a lot going on. Seems to the main theme is around the coming of age of Riley, the key character. On finishing this I was keen to read volume 2
