    Die by the sword

This is the third book of Jane Harpers that I have read and all have been well written providing insight into a harsh and unforgiving land. Little by little the author reveals more of this family until it’s final secret is out. I couldn’t put this book down

    A disturbing family story

The Bright family lives in the Australian Outback, a place of stark landscapes and difficult life. The three Bright brothers - Nathan, Cameron and Bub - have a strained relationship, the details of which are revealed after Cameron is found dead. I have read and enjoyed Jane Harper's previous novels but this latest tale was less intriguing to me.

    Australian gem

Setting in outback Australia is vividly portrayed along with well-developed characters. Underlying it all is the mystery as to why an apparently successful and well liked character would kill himself. This, along with a host of "dirty" secrets lead to a fitting conclusion. A bit slow at times but definitely worth reading.

    My favourite Jane Harper novel!

I’ve read and enjoyed Jane Harper’s Aaron Falk series, and when this book – which is a stand-alone novel – was on sale in the Kobo store one day, I snatched it up. One of my favourite things about Jane Harper’s books is the way the landscape informs the story and almost becomes another character. I loved reading about the dry, hot, dangerous Australian outback. This was a really gripping story, and the mystery drew me in right away. I love reading mysteries partly because I like trying to solve a puzzle. And the mystery in this book was so tantalizing! A dead man, in the middle of nowhere, no signs of foul play, from from his abandoned car. I had to know what happened! I think The Lost Man is my favourite Jane Harper novel. I couldn’t put it down! Highly recommended!
