    Fantastic magical ride for adults

I have read the whole series now, it is one of the best magical stories I have read in a long time. It is an adult story, a combination of Narnia and Harry Potter, the characters are realistic, the magical characters are what you have come to expect, from reading fairy tales and other magical children's stories. But let me be clear, these books are definately for adults!

    A fantastic journey

I don't know truly what I was expecting from this book but in the end I feel like I've taken some sort of fantastic journey. But keep in mind that fantastic does not always means good. I didn't connect with the main character until toward the end of the novel a there were definitely certain moments that stunned me. My initial reaction to Fillory was one of surprise as the initial description reminded me of Narnia but in the end was quite amazing and different. The detail in this novel is wonderful.

    Chronicles

Pretty good read. Quite long. Has a backstory ripped right from chronicles of Narnia. Worth the $3 I paid.

    Good but not impressive

Of course I was thrilled about the idea of a more modern and American Harry Potter type of book. I love the school Brakebills but not so much the students, or rather the main characters. I absolutely hated Quentin's personality and his whole makeup, he was such a little angry and whining child most of the time, especially towards the ending of the story. I just wanted to reach in and choke him most of the time. My favorite characters were Alice and Penny and I felt like the author downplayed Penny's abilities a lot because he seemed the superior magician and overall human being when compared to Quentin. The magic in the book was minimal and complicated. Even the professors didn't truly understand what they were teaching or really believed in it. Nothing in this story made me want to study at Brakebills or travel to Fillory. There was a certain magic that was missing in this story. I guess that's what I'm saying about this first book in the series: it wasn't "magical" enough for me. I'll give the second book a try but not holding out much hope though.

    Nothing like the tv show

Way better then the showcase TV show. Will be interesting what they do for season 2. I enjoyed this much much more. Show changed way to much and changed the essence
