Incredible. Absolutely incredible. This is the first book in years that has made me want to abandon most everything in my day to day life and read.

The best fantasy book... well, ever. For those weary of the familiar fantasy tropes and looking for something to renew their love of the genre. It's clever, funny, and beautifully written. Don't be off-put by the Fabio-esque cover that or the summary that sounds like it was written by someone who didn't read it. I honestly don't know how to express how much I love this book. "High action", "legendary school of magic" and even "wizard" are terrible words to describe this book. And don't let Kvothe hear you call him a "poet". The University in this book has more in common with Harvard than Hogwarts, and while Kvothe's life is a sight more exciting than mine the book moves at a comfortable pace giving you a true story about a man's life not a whirlwind of battles and adventures expected of "hero" and "wizard". "Masterpiece" and "gifted young man" ring true. The worldbuilding is beautiful and subtle. If you are looking for a Tolkien epic rehash, look elsewhere. It has the bones of the tales we know; young boy seeking revenge discovers a secret magic. But it's everything else that really matters. If I could only read one book for the rest of my life, this would be it. Patrick Rothfuss is a genius. HOWEVER, if you don't like waiting for sequels, again look elsewhere. I read this book for the first time in 2008 and I'm still waiting for the last book. To find out how it ends, i would wait another 6 years, and then another 50. In short; it's fantastic. Its amazing. Read it.

Remote inkeeper Kvothe tells his own life story (even though he is still relatively young himself). The story of a young orphan who uses his wits and intelligence to enter the University and builds the basis of the story of a name that would become known around the world. A very entertaining read - definitely one of the best fantasy novels of recent years.

I was sucked in from the very first and as the main character told his story, I couldn't put it down. It dragged in a few places later in the book but repeatedly caught my attention back. I am now reading the sequel and enjoying that, too.

Honestly, one of the best fantasy books I have ever read. Impossible to put down and completely immersive, a must read.
