    A Dark Prayer

First published in the UK in the early 1980s, this underrated horror novel has long been due a re-release. Overshadowed by Strieber's best-known works of the time, THE WOLFEN and THE HUNGER, THE NIGHT CHURCH has never really received the acclaim it deserves. Like those earlier titles, the book's pulp plotline -- a shadow religion attempting to breed the anti-man and destroy all humankind - could distract from the fine writing Strieber brings to the book. But there are real characters here, tension and betrayal, and when other writers could have been heavy-handed, Strieber is fleet and artistic. Do give this book a go. It is worthy of re-evaluation.
