My favourite book of all time!

TLDR: if you like medieval fantasy this book has everything, highly recommended. I first read the paperback version of in university and I just couldn't put it down. It was easily over 1000 pages and I finished it in about three days. In short - epic story. It centers around the construction of a cathedral in a medieval setting, but don't let that fool you. It's about survival, poverty, death, life, everything! People will grow up, relationships will be built, tested, destroyed, there will be fire, destruction, oh man. If you're like me you'll hit a number of places where you'll have to stop and ask yourself - wow did that just happen? Highly recommended. If you like medieval fantasy with a healthy dose of realism and violence then you're going to love this.

    Pillars of the Earth

It is a rare moment in a long life to read a book so well written as to move one to thank God for the opportunity to be exposed to such goodness. What a delightful surprise this book was. The fictionalized story meshed together with the historical events of that day. A most remarkable book. I'm in awe of the author's talent and deftness.

    Epic Book

Follett has created a masterpiece with this tale of greed, abuse of power, corruption, envy, and noble persons. The action is fast and sometimes bewildering, especially in light of the many abuses against peasants and the rule of law. Fascinating drama and historically well researched to show the true action of the era.

    Excellent reading

Historical novels are hIs forté and this is a fine example. I'd never thought about the dedication and mind-boggling passion needed to create the amazing structures left all over Europe. A must-read.
