    A great story

This was a great story about two nurses - one nursing soldiers during World War 1 and a trauma nurse in the present. It takes place in a small village in France and is both heartwarming and gut wrenching. A very enjoyable read with believable and likeable characters with whom the reader becomes involved.

    World War I Historical

The Poppy Field by Deborah Carr is super split time Historical Fiction. The story centers around two nurses, Alice serves in 1916 as a volunteer nurse in World War I France and Gemma in 2018 England. Mysterious hidden letters and a brooch are found in a house being remodeled. Vivid descriptions of scenery, people, food, and the medical care in World War I. I loved the story of the reality’s of life in both love and tragedy. Excellent writing style and flow of the story. I really enjoyed this book and hope to read more by Deborah Carr. I am also hoping to read more of Alice‘s story following World War I and more of Gemma’s story in the present. My thanks to the author, Harperimpulse and Netgalley for allowing me to read, review and enjoy this exceptional book.

    Love, Loss and Resilience

A book that I did not want to put down. It is a beautiful story of love. loss and resilience during difficult times. It is set in the present day and in the front lines during WWI. Gemma, a nurse, has taken leave from to recover from the trauma of her job and is in France to help restore a property her father has inherited. She finds a contractor to help her restore the property which is to be told when restoration is completed. During the renovations they discover a tin containing letters in an old cupboard. These are love letters were written by Alice LeBreton, a young volunteer nurse who worked in a clearing station on the front line near the Somme during WWI. The novel tells the stories of Gemma and Alice. I became involved in the lives of both Alice and Gemma. It is a wonderful novel whose characters stayed with me long after I finished the book.
