    Thanks for your feedback!

    Good story, good characters.

I was a little daunted by an 800-page book but it went quickly: the pacing was good, the story was exciting, and while there are a lot of characters, they were easy to keep straight (with the exception of some minor characters but honestly I didn't feel it hurt my understanding of the story to just accept "some guy".) I liked the system of magic, and the political world that Shannon created.

    I devoured it!

I received this book as a gift from a dear friend.. and what a wonderful gift it was, for this book provides readers with a fantastical story of sisterhood, friendship, and love - ironically fitting! A page turner to the end... it will be read again.

    Little investment but great world-building

I really wanted to like this more than I did. I give the author props for the world-building as it was excellent. I also give the author props for a very *adult* female-centred story, something which is seems to be sorely lacking in a lot of fantasy. The love story seemed a little forced at first, although it came together in a lovely way at the end. The epic battle seemed rushed after the massive build up to it. The characters were often one-dimensional and, quite frankly, often boring. There seemed to be little to create an emotional investment in the story or the characters, especially the characters. When one of the main characters is on her deathbed it was simply a "meh" and a flip to the next chapter. I don't know that I would recommend it but I don't regret reading it. The world was a cool place to visit for a week.

    Well worth the wait!

"Truth is a weave of many threads" ...and a book this big to take it all in! Samantha Shannon said it took her 3 years to write this epic, and each line is as crafted as the jewels that shine throughout the book. From the faith of the Sisters of the Priory to those deemed worthy to be dragon riders; from the queen whose reign will end a thousand year dynasty to love that breaks bonds and traditions, this is truly high fantasy that whispers faintly towards our reality in the days of coronavirus. The stories of Sabran, Ead, Loth, Meg, Tane and the ones who love and care for them are carefully woven and in spots undone and rewoven to take you on a journey you will never forget. I first heard of this book a year ago when a blogger friend posted a picture of this massive book. It took months before I was able to borrow it from the library. Twice more I borrowed it before I could actually set aside enough time to give it my full attention. And now, I want to own a copy and am on a search for one. Thank you Samantha Shannon for taking me on a journey I will never forget! Highly Recommended 5/5

    Boring, too long winded

Personally, I didn't care for this book. Just couldn't get into the story line.
