    The Quick and the Undead

This is a good series opener from a tried and true author of vampire cowboy novels. She sets the stage for new books in the series by including the additional members of the Tombstone Ten gang, minus their maker, who disappeared a century earlier. And while this book is a standalone, she leaves a teaser for the next book in the epilogue, just enough to pique the readers interest into watching for book two's release. At one time the Tombstone Ten were the most feared outlaws in Texas. That was 150 or so years ago. Today they run a vacation resort in their home town for tourists who want a taste of the old west. And the tall tales and reenactments are more accurate than the visitors could ever imagine. Boone Jarrett is the town's sheriff, a former bank robber and a current Texas homicide detective on extended leave while he helps the rest of the gang get the business up and running. As soon as they are in the black, he will be heading back to Austin. Riley is an extreme vacation blogger running from an abusive ex boyfriend by traveling for a living. Recently she has been in Florida and Arizona. Now she's stepping off a stagecoach in Tombstone, Texas. And the first person to catch her attention is a tall, well built alpha male-just like her ex. Which makes him totally off limits. But the attraction is mutual and Boone finds himself pulling the feisty human closer, while at the same time keeping his distance. And the prickle on the back of his neck increases when one of the resort's employees is attacked by a rogue, to be saved when Riley stumbles on them and calls for help. But now, because she can identify the attacker, Riley is in danger and Boone realizes he will move heaven and boulders to keep her safe. Then he can let her go back to her life.
