Very enjoyable end to the series

A short read that doesn’t fall to the curse of the novella.  It was well organized, characters had a backstory that made this quick courtship make sense; I absolutely loved how frank they both were at the very beginning of the story. That scene was so refreshing from the sometimes drawn out, keep secrets, tell only half truths, protect the other none sense that can make for a really good romance; however, it was nice that all of that was skipped in this story.  It had a perfectly orchestrated plot and development of the love story.  It was perfect in every way.  Refreshing and enjoyable from start to finish.

    Second chance

Eleven years ago Hart left behind Anne and their plans of elopement. Seeing her again stirs a desire to make her his wife if they can get past all their bad decisions and current obstacles. I found this story to be just ok. Anne does a lot of pushing away but considering what happened years ago, as well as events that have changed her during the past decade, it’s understandable. Hart was playing his cards close to his chest, unsure how much he could share about his current status. Both of them struggled with trust. I struggled a bit with both of them. Due to its length we don’t get a ton of goodness but we do get a look at the re-courtship between these two characters as well as the chemistry they share. Secondary characters are minimal, the pace is fast, and there is no skimming required here. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book provided by NetGalley and Gallery Books. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Was a fast paced read nice for time period.

I would call this more a novella than a book. It's a heartfelt story of two youngsters in love. Her father keeps them from marrying due to the fact that he was poor and their too young. She felt he abandoned her, he tried to contact her but she never knew that. He never heard from her thinking it her choice. Eleven years later they meet again. Still in love but with the same problems seem to plague them. The way society expects them to act due to their station in life. Will they find love this time or will history repeat itself?

    A Happy Ending!

Captain Lord Hartley Corry is shocked to see his past love, Lady Anne, upon arriving at his brother’s house. He yearns for a second chance to woo her, but he’s unsure if he can trust her with the truth. He is a spy! Lady Anne is upset that Hartley didn’t fight for her hand or elope with her as he promised. He can’t walk up to her as if nothing happened. He’s going to have to win her back. This is a sweet, albeit short historical romance. The characters are in love with each other from the very beginning. But, mistakes, misinformation and pride stop them from getting together. I loved how they communicated and found where their true hearts lie. There was not a lot of action, but a happy and satisfying ending made the read worthwhile. I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from NetGalley and am voluntarily reviewing it.

    Fun, sweet story!

Great addition to this series. This quick read gives us Captain Lord Hartley Corry's story. When Hart asked for Miss Anne Barkley's hand in marriage when they were teenagers, he was flatly refused by her father. Hoping she was still going to run away and elope with him, he was very disappointed when she didn't show. After time in the service, and his current work as a spy, Hart is finally back in England after 11 years of being away. Imagine his surprise when he sees Anne at his brother's house! It is obvious that the spark is still there and Hart wants to pursue Anne again but he is reluctant to tell her about his past since it could harm his current position as a spy. Through some soul searching and a few stolen kisses, these two finally get their happy ending. I loved these characters and their story. It was a fun, sweet story
