    Simply one of the best...

The Rock was waaayyy better than the previous book in the series, The Striker, yet I gave The Striker 5 stars. So it should tell you something on how good The Rock was. Monica McCarty sure knows how to weave words together so that you find yourself smack in early 14th century wishing you could have lived then (conveniently forgetting modern medicines, inventions and comforts). I was relieved to find all the Guard members back on the pages (they were disappointingly mostly absent in The Striker). But even better was that we had not just all the Phantoms present but a full cast including Edward Bruce, James Douglas, Thomas Randolph and of course The Bruce himself. It made my day! I think what makes this series so successful is that we love the Highland Guard. And we can't live without reading bits and pieces of their lives in between the unfolding romance of the two main characters. Monica does a splendid job in this book keeping us hooked. I can't wait for The Ghost. I really do hope the whole story doesn't play off in England only as I would love to see all the Guard members preparing for the Bannockburn battle. And I really do hope we see a lot of Robert Bruce coming forward in that book as he was afterall immortalised with that battle. I also hope Monica finishes Thomas Randolph's story before The Ghost comes out. Can't wait to read that!

    Great Addition To Series!

The Rock, book eleven in Monica McCarty's epic Highland Guard series shows this author's talent at combining history, action and romance simultaneously. Childhood friends from different social spheres the hero and heroine of this work battle internal and external forces that seem determined to keep them apart. Yes there was a low burn simmer of sexual tension between the two main characters but ultimately it was their deeply rooted friendship that formed the solid foundation for this well written story. Highly enjoyable this book adds another dimension to a wonderful series and demonstrates why book eleven is as interesting as book one! *I received this ARC via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.* *While part of a series this book can be read as a stand alone.*

    Loved it!

The Highland Guard series written by Monica McCarty is superbly amazing! The Rock is the 11th book in the set and was released December 29th 2015 by Gallery Books. You guys have got to get on bored with these books! Out of all the books, I would have to say that while this one seemed to frustrate me the most it was the most realistic of them all in regards to how feelings affect people. Both the hero, Thom, and the heroine, Elizabeth, are hardheaded and stubborn when it came to their feelings for each other. But isn't that how we all are when it comes to love? He has been in love with her since they were little and when he finally tells her and she doesn't react the way that he wants her to, he gets hurt and angry, then disappears for 3 years to become something more worthy than he believes he currently is. She on the other hand is completely naive to her feelings for him because she never looked at him as more than just a friend and her fear from being poor when she was a young girl has her not looking past their stations to a possible future together. While it was frustrating to see them go back and forth with their feelings for each other, it was nice to catch a glimpse of what real love looks like. People get hurt, lash out at the one that they truly love, and make mistakes. This book is filled with a bunch of that which is what makes it wonderful!!

    The Rock

As like the rest of the series, a very enjoyable read. Power, love, heroism, shivery and lords and ladies in one very action packed noval.
