  • Entertaining

Kimberly Kincaid is relatively new author to me so I was was excited to read and review book one in this series. This is Xander Matthews and Tara Kingston story and it was an entertaining read. Although not a particularly long read, Ms. Kincaid managed to pack quite a bit into the story. Xander was a bad boy, but now he’s a police recruit and when he is tasked with protecting a witness he finds himself dealing with Tara, a woman from his past. Together they need to find a killer before it is too late. When danger rears it’s head it will be up to Xander to do what he has trained to do. The chemistry between Xander and Tara is intense and it was interesting to catch their relationship develop. Both have baggage that they need to deal with, will it bring them together or tear the apart?

  • Love the new Intelligence Unit series

I received an ARC of The Rookie by Kimberly Kincaid for an honest review. I can truly say that I absolutely loved it! I loved every page of The Rookie and could not put it down. The Rookie is the debut novella for Kimberly Kincaid’s new series, The Intelligence Unit. I really enjoy how the book is told from the perspective of the main characters. I love getting the insight and feelings from the different characters. I also enjoy that Kimberly has included characters from her other series in the new Intelligence Unit series. It was nice catching up with the other characters that I have grown attached to. It is like a family reunion. Once again Kimberly Kincaid has shown that she is an incredible storyteller who delivers sizzling romances. The Rookie is the heartwarming and heartbreaking tale of Xander Matthews, a rookie for the Remington Police Department and Tara Kingston, an A.D.A. in the Remington District Attorney's office. The first meeting between Xander and Tara happens two years ago when Tara was trying to prosecute Xander. Xander ending up helping the RPD solve the crimes and the charges against him were dropped. I love that Xander changed his career path after that experience. Tara and Xander meet again when a criminal informant, Amour for Tara's current case calls her to alert her that she has been assaulted in her home. Tara, Xander and his partner, Dade all arrive at Amour’s home at the same time. Xander is able to get Tara to calm down in the waiting room and then get information from Amour when the others were not able to get her to talk after her life was threatened by the intruder. Xander is invited to work with the Intelligence Unit to help solve this case. While working the case and protecting Amour, Xander and Tara spend more time with each other and their relationship quickly changes. Both Tara and Xander share secrets with each other that they have never told anyone before. My favorite part was when Xander introduced Tara to all his police and firefighter friends, and how Tara quickly feels like she is part of their family. I truly enjoyed the moments that Xander shared with his sister, Kennedy. I love how Xander is the hero of the story, since he never thought he was a "good guy" or good enough for an Ivy League educated lawyer. The Rookie is filled with the sizzling romance, poignant and bittersweet moments as well as the plot twists, that I have come to love and expect in Kimberly Kincaid's stories. I love the cast of characters in The Rookie and I am looking forward to reading the other books in the series. It was a wonderful story and I highly recommend it.

  • New Series

Kimberly Kincaid once again burns up the pages with The Rookie, book one in a new series, The Intelligence Unit series. The last time we saw Xander Matthews he was assisting the Remington police and Station Seventeen to end an arson and killing spree and stay out of trouble after snitching on an acquaintance. Forward a couple of years and police recruit Xander wants two things: to help people and keep his dark, dangerous past in the past. Working on a case he unexpectedly runs into the beautiful, arrogant, ADA Tara Kingston. Tara tried to prosecute him in the arson case, but higher powers prevailed. Xander is temporarily moved in the Intelligence Unit to assist on Tara’s latest case and while working together to protect a CI they find an attraction that is off the charts. Their chemistry sizzles and Ms. Kincaid is incredible in her descriptions of the sexy time shared between these two. As the passion flares hotter and hotter, from attraction to all out sizzle, they need to be careful as they work together to outwit and catch this dangerous killer before it’s too late. I totally loved reading this book. Ms. Kincaid did a fantastic job creating her characters, making them realistic, keeping the story interesting, making me forget the world around me and not letting me go until I turned the last page, wanting more. Ms. Kincaid kept this reader mesmerized with the need to see how Xander and Tara would find and capture this guy before he hurt anyone else. I highly recommend this book to other readers and look forward to the next book in this series.

  • The Rookie

Xander is a rookie with the Remington Police Department where he loves his job and is proud of how he has turned everything around. Tara Kingston is an Assistant District Attorney who is trying to close a criminal case that has been going on for years. With a confidential informant, she is close to closing the case. Until she is injured and the police are called and Xander arrives on the scene. Two years prior she attempted to arrest him and now he is the one who is going to try and keep her safe. I am happy we have another book from Kimberly Kincaid. Xander is such a sweet and fiercely protective hero and Tara is a very determined and smart heroine. Xander and Tara had great banter and were hot and perfect for each other. The rubber duckie story needs to be read by all! This book is connected to the Station Seventeen series and Remington Medical series through cameos from characters from those books but can be read as a standalone. The Rookie is an opposites attract romantic suspense and the first book in the Intelligence Unit series from Kimberly Kincaid.
