    The Rowan Tree

Good book but not much character development. I found the characters to be lacking in personality and characters way too lofty in idealism.

    The Rowan Tree

I absolutely loved this novel. So many issues covered in this story. Such believable characters. Family issues, racial and political. This book I can highly recommend and truly say it was a page turner.

    Started great

The booked started out great really pulling you into the characters and the struggles they were having. Suddenly everything shifted and the story is being told from a totally different perspective which is now where near as interesting. I stuck with it and got back into it but it just wasn't as good. Then it does the same again and just becomes boring. It's very rare I don't finish a book once started I make a real effort to see them through to the end but I just couldn't face the rest of this. According to Kobo I read 83% and I regret giving it that much of my time it was just so boring. I give it 2 stars as the first section is good, you may find the second section interesting but don't bother with the rest.

Mostly great, but some tedius spots!

There were times that I really, really liked this book and other times when it was just ok, especially near the end. It is a very long book or appeared to be as I started reading it before going on vacation and then finished it when I came back - at some times I felt like I was reading War and Peace. :) I really enjoyed the story as it related to the protagonist Rowan and Easter and I liked how the book followed their life over many years from University life up to the years when they were living in separate countries and living completely separate lives. I feel the author spent a great deal of time developing his characters and I enjoyed reading about the various places they worked and travelled. The story leads into a couple of more generations involving children and grandchildren and so we get to see life over a number of decades. The US politics was also quite interesting and added a lot of thoughts for what the future might or could bring. Could there - will there ever be dignity for all? This book reflected a great deal of work and thought by the author. Well done!

Hard to put down. So many positive thoughts about how I would love for the world to become.
