  • An intense mystery

"The Sanatorium" is a suspenseful story which keeps the reader’s interest from beginning to end. Set in the Swiss Alps, Elin and Will, a British detective on leave and her architect boyfriend, travel to "The Sommet", a high end resort, to meet Elin’s brother Isaac and his fiancée Laure to celebrate their engagement. The hotel is a renovation of an old TB sanatorium which was redesigned to be a modern hotel. Their holiday is disrupted when people begin to go missing. Bad winter weather prevents the Swiss authorities from getting to the hotel so Elin, in phone contact with Swiss authorities, begins to investigate. Elin soon learns that the happenings at Le Sommet are dark and macabre. The story is intense, and the finale may surprise many readers.

Terrible Written very poorly, poor grammar, a waste of time. I could not get past page 70.

  • Great atmosphere, but...

I really enjoyed the writing. The author was able to create an eerie and chilling atmosphere throughout the book. I also enjoyed the concept but I don’t think that the author was able to deliver. The development wasn’t that thrilling or clever. The twists were not very surprising. Here we have a protagonist agonizing with her past, who does not show a good grip of the facts, but this only makes her feel more human and it should not be seeing as a negative trait (she even uses Google Translate! The risk!). Overall, I thought that this book surpassed my expectations and I’m glad that I had the opportunity to read it.

  • Atmospheric

Wow. I wasn’t sure getting into this but what a great book. This book is often intensely creepy with a great central mystery story. Hard to put down as you keep saying one more chapter even though you should have been in bed hours ago.
