    Must read!

Wow! This was my first book by Ms. Berg and what a book to start!!!! From the very first page of the Prologue, I was enthralled! Dean (yes, he has been added to my growing list of BBF’s) is such a strong man. He has endured so much pain, I was silently cheering for him in my head. Cora.....she is a very determined and strong woman to rise about the scars she bares to make a better life for her and her daughter. The title, The Scars I Bare, is a perfect description of the story of Dean and Cora. I have since one-clicked the first book and a book from another series by the author. I would recommend this book ❤️. Reviewed by: Dana D.

Loved this touching story of survival and romance

The Scars that I Bare was even more beautiful the second time around. Let the wait begin for book 3. Can I please have more stars to rate The Scars I Bare? Five stars just doesn't do this book justice. Dean has been through Hell and now goes through the emotions of living but not living. While recovering from the ferry explosion he fell hard for nurse Cora. And then she was gone, just gone. Fast forward three years and Dean is still lost but back home in Ocracoke. Cora is now hiding in plain sight as Jake's Nurse. Cora has the most adorable daughter. If this was a movie she would steal the show. Get ready to fall in love with Izzie. Some scars are hidden. Some scars are invisible. Some scars can strengthen. Some scars can destroy. Some scars are the bridge to living. This story reached deep within. This story touched me. The journey was difficult. The journey tore at my heart. Hope is strong. Reality is even stronger. Pick up The Scars I Bare and discover real love. Stock up with snacks first though because you are not going to want to stop.

    Poignant and beautiful!

So many feels! JL Berg stole my heart with this book! This beautiful story is raw, honest, emotional and uplifting. The characters are the highlight of this book, they have been going through a lot. Their story felt raw and deeply moving. Both Cora and Dean are individuals with pasts that have scarred them. They are very good at hiding the struggles they face, they are vulnerable and yet so strong. Cora is running from her past, she wants to start a new life as the only nurse on a picturesque and isolated island. She is used to stressful situations and she likes being far away from everything. Cora has lived in a land of make believe, to hide the painful reality of her conjugal life and protect her daughter and her parents. She is determined to fight back and make it on her own, with her extremely curious and observant daughter. Dean survived a horrific accident. His family and friends have been incredibly supportive but for three years he has put life on hold, he is a broken man. Sparks fly between these two, they feel a connection that is beyond friendship. I liked that they both recognized something in one another that they could trust. Both characters are bruised and involved in their mutual healing and the growth that comes with it. The strength of these characters is definitely what stands out, they both have more to give and more to love. This story of second chance was a true winner for me. The author writes from the heart, her words are strong, eloquent, her prose is beautiful and poignant. Her characters are so engaging, I just wanted to hug them! She definitely tugged at my heartstrings with this book.

    4.5 stars

The Scars I Bare tells us Dean and Cora’s love story. I’ve met both of them in The Choices I've Made. I wanted Dean’s book since reading that book. Something horrible happened to him and it turned his life upside down. He hasn’t found love since and he left the family company to his brother. Dean is still trying to adjust and accept this new life. Cora needs a change in her life and she accepts a job on Ocracoke Island. She moves there with her little daughter. Cora soon runs into Dean, a man she has never forgotten. Dean also remembers Cora from all those years ago and he’s happy to see her again. Dean and Cora spend some time together and grow closer. I really liked Cora and Dean. Dean is sweet, caring, genuine and a little closed off. Cora is smart, loving, kindhearted and caring. She’s an amazing mother and her daughter is her everything. Dean and Cora are damaged. They both deserve love and I’m happy that they found an happily ever after with each other. It took some time before they became a couple, but they needed that time. They make each other happy. I loved the secondary characters. Lizzie, Cora’s daughter, is adorable and smart and loving. She wants her mommy to be happy and she immediately likes Dean. The couple from the previous book, Jake and Molly, appeared many times and it was great to see that they are still going strong. Both of them are great friends of Dean.
