    Fun read

This is a quick, fun, sexy read that is perfect for an afternoon escape. It's the first in a series of novellas that look very promising! In this one Rose Powell finds herself in Turkey after her brother backs out of a trip he has promised their grandmother. Her brother did arrange for a buddy to help them navigate their way around the countryside. Keenan Parker is nothing like what Rose expects and she couldn't be happier. These two definitely enjoy each other as the trip progresses. Keeping their hearts out of it will prove to be difficult though. I definitely recommend this one and look forward to the next in the series.

    Full of Turkish history!!!

The basis for the story is good but it was lacking in substance. Nothing exciting happened. There were no ups and downs, only a lot of history about Turkey. It was all one speed from beginning to end. Even the intimate moments between Keenan and Rose were without emotion. I don't even know how they fell in love. I love a good SEAL story, so I'm looking forward to book 2, hoping the story line content will improve. Received a copy via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated for my review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed is my own.

    Sexy vacation fling romance!

I am an avowed Anne Calhoun fan. I’ve loved everything she’s written, so when I saw that she was going to be writing a navy SEAL book, and a vacation fling story, I was just dying to get my hands on it. I’m happy to say that just like her other works, this one wows you in ways you wouldn’t expect. Despite its novella length, there is a depth of character to both Rose and Keenan, helped out by the chapters in alternating points of view. Rose’s love for her grandmother is evident in her taking the time to replace her brother as a companion on this historical trip to visit places on her grandmother’s bucket list. She’s obviously a hard working woman who rarely takes any time for herself, under a lot of stress in the high position she has in her company and initially counting on being able to be connected to her team back home with her phone and laptop. Sadly, this isn’t the case for her – but it forces her to step back, and really enjoy this holiday, including making the most of the attraction she has to Keenan. And Keenan, well, he was involved in a mission that went bad, a mission that resulted in some PTSD trauma for everyone involved, including Rose’s brother (who seems to have come out of the experience the most emotionally damaged). He’s adjusting pretty well to civilian life, working in Istanbul as a security expert. But in a way, it’s just an excuse for him to avoid going home and really dealing with the fallout and where his future will take him. Having Rose in his bed is a delightful way to forget his troubles for a while, and with the knowledge between them that this is a vacation only affair, they share some pretty steamy scenes together. Yet Keenan is aware that with Rose, he can actually let down his guard and that she does the same with him, linking them emotionally more than he expected. At the end of their time together, he’s got to make some choices, realizing that if anyone is going to pick up stakes and compromise to keep the relationship going, it’s going to have to be him. I loved how they dealt with the conflict, and even up to the end I really wasn’t sure what was going to happen, though I was delighted with the final outcome. Besides the romance, I really enjoyed the visual descriptions of the setting and the trip across Turkey. The stops along the way at different historical sites were obviously well researched and definitely have given me the urge to learn more about the country. I appreciated the authenticity of those scenes. Also, Rose’s grandmother and her friends were a hoot, fun older ladies who added some great humor to the story and fun dialogue as well. Overall, it was really quite a fun, sexy romance with a happy ending, and some great hints as to what’s to come for other members of Keenan’s team, including Rose’s brother Jack. Can’t wait for the next one! 4.5 stars.
