    Very interesting book

I learned a lot about the lives of women during the civil war.

    Thought provoking

Not riveting but any historical fiction is informative and emotional. The story is told through letters and diary entries that help the reader follow a story through several points of view as a sad truth is finally revealed. Not a shocker, the climax was predictable. Characters are well rounded, three dimensional, and likeable. Story takes place in the South during wartime, a very harsh life for the protagonist. Definitely worth a read in particular because of the unique way the story is told.

    Fabulous Story!

Perhaps because of the letters in this book, coupled with the diary entries and how personal they are, this story took on a sense of immediacy and reality that played out more like a strong memory – a cellular recollection of a time and place that was brutally hard yet filled with small blessings and rewards. Both the pragmatic and the esoteric can be found within these pages, and how this feels will be a unique experience for each reader. I loved this book. I highly recommend this book, and I hope that in reading it your life is touched by this story, too.
