    The Secrets We Keep

I absolutely love this book. It's not even the type of book that I would normally read, but I find myself reading it over and over again. Ella is one of the most complex characters in any of the books I've read, and her story is amazing. The other characters are deeply developed as well, like Josh (Ella's best friend) or Alex. (Maddy's former boyfriend) The actual story itself, which might seem a bit unrealistic at first glance, is even understandable from Ella's point of view. She envelopes herself so completely in her lie, and it's both interesting and heartbreaking to watch it happen and see its impact on those around her. The only thing I can think of to compare this to is a musical called Dear Evan Hansen. While it's obviously a very different story and way of telling it, they sort of remind me of each other. In the end this is a great book, and even though it's really sad it still has a lot of important messages about love, friendship, and family.
