Good bones, needs to be fleshed out more.

The premise definitely grabbed me. I saw this book and had to have it. I felt like too much time was spent on the romantic aspect and it seemed to easy to fall in love. Other aspects of the story took a back seat and were glossed over to get to banter and sex (which I skipped...wasn't expecting a bodice ripper). I wish there was more suspense, and more depth to the world building and relationship dynamics. This book could have used 50-10) more pages I think. I will read the next installment. I was disappointed when the book ended as the last two chapters really upped the ante. I would recommend with reservations.

Interesting take on a magical society

I read Scott's first trilogy many years ago when it first came out, then sort of lost track of her work. I ran across this new series and the premise sounded interesting, so I gave it a shot. I have to say, this book had a really interesting take on magic and I really liked the way Scott handled it. The characters were interesting and didn't always make good choices, the society made me uncomfortable without alienating me, and the pacing of the story was good. There were a few places where she seemed to sort of skim over action and perhaps the characters weren't as well-developed as they could have been--but since I was devouring the book, that didn't really bother me very much, although on a second read, I might find that bothersome. I'm really looking forward to the next books in this series.

I found this book very addictive and the author kept you guessing which direction she will take next.
