  • Fantastic Thriller!

The Sister-in Law by Sue Watson should come with a warning: Do not read this book on a family vacation. Clare Taylor, that means you! Clare, her husband Dan and their three young children are vacationing with Dan’s parents Bob and Joy in Amalfi. Her in-laws always help with the grandchildren so Clare looks forward to using this time to heal her marriage, strained by Dan’s infidelity. All goes well until Dan’s younger brother Jamie arrives. Jamie, obviously the favored son, is a rootless world traveler who has only recently agreed to return home to work for the family real estate business when Bob and Joy retire. However, Jamie is not alone. He’s accompanied by his new wife Ella, a young, tall, slender, glamorous model and instagram influencer. In short, Ella is everything Clare is not and soon has captivated everyone. Only Clare seems to have doubts about Ella and she is proved to be right when Ella reveals knowledge of a secret that could destroy the entire Taylor family. This is a fantastic psychological thriller. It builds slowly as Sue Watson pulls the reader in to the Taylor’s world. Just as you begin to imagine the cracks beneath the perfect family surface, the story explodes into and ending full of surprises. What an amazing story! Thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and Sue Watson for this ARC.

  • Loved this book!

Joy Taylor is bossy and manipulative and her husband, Bob, is a wimp. They are retiring from their family business and leaving it in the hands of their two sons, Dan, who has already been working for the company, and Jamie who is a world traveler having a good time doing nothing and being funded by his parents. Dan and his wife Claire have 3 small children and she is a registered nurse. Joy and Bob rent a villa on the coast of Italy every year for a "family vacation." This year, their son Jamie arrives a day late accompanied by a drop-dead gorgeous model, Instagram celebrity and successful blogger who he introduces as his wife, Ella. Claire and Ella instantly dislike each other. What could possibly go wrong with this scenario?? Lots of bickering and backstabbing occurs from all members of the family and there are lots of family secrets that begin to come to light. None of the characters were, in my opinion, likeable, but I think that is why it is such a great book. Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this book that kept me on the edge of my seat and kept me mesmerized until the end. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good thriller.

  • WOOO!

The Sister-in-Law had me up way past my bedtime last night trying to finish this gripping thriller!! Clare and Dan are on holiday with their 3 children and Dan's parents. Dan has been unfaithful, so it's a perfect chance to reinvigorate their marriage. Jaime, Dan's brother, finally arrives and to everyone's surprise, brings his new, gorgeous wife, Ella. Ella is just a terrible little witch to Clare. Unfortunately, the rest of the family is enamored with her and don't see who she really is or how she's treating Clare. If you love a good family drama, filled with amazing characters and shocking secrets, you will love this book! Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture, and Sue Watson for providing me with an ARC.

  • An Exhilarating Read

The Sister-in-Law is a domestic thriller and an engrossing story, set on the Amalfi Coast in Italy. When Clare and Dan Taylor head to an Italian Villa for their summer holiday with Dan's family, Clare really hoped she could get some much needed relaxation time. She's had a hard time of it lately and is looking forward to putting her feet up for the next few days. For Dan, he has been suffering from a roving eye but now thinks he has put all that behind him. However, Dan's well travelled, younger brother Jamie, rocks up but he is not alone... he has brought his beautiful new wife, Ella. A wife no one else knows because they have just got married and intend to use this time as their honeymoon, thwarting everyone's plans. I loved this fantastic, juicy thriller by Sue Watson! It was a thoroughly riveting and compulsive story with a sound plot, perfect pacing, and this talented author's writing style suited me well. I appreciated the way Sue Watson created a subtly oppressive atmosphere and a sense of foreboding, surreptitiously notching up the tension until everything eventually reached crisis point. Family dynamics and toxic relationships were deftly described and the characters so well drawn and portrayed with an interesting, authentic cluster of layers that I regularly found myself shouting at my e-reader! Joy was especially odious and I frequently felt incensed on behalf of protagonist Clare. The Sister-in-Law was a story of secrets, relationship tensions and struggles, duplicity, jealousy, deception and power to name but a few. There was absolutely no room for boredom and I was held in its thrall from the very first page. This was an excellent and exhilarating novel, complete with an unforgettable resolution. Very highly recommended and well worth reading. I received a complimentary digital copy of this novel at my request from Bookouture via NetGalley and this review is my unbiased opinion.
