    Thanks for your feedback!

Delicious and fun food for thought

Disturbing takes on new meaning when one has extrasensory ability. At the turn of the 19th century – in post-consolidation New York City – crime prevention has new allies. They are led by Eve Whitby and assisted by Lieutenant Horowitz. Although not every active member of The Ghost Precinct may be counted among the living, all may be counted on to confront the most disquieting mysteries and crimes. When a missing person is also a not-entirely-departed soul, how must the police respond? I thoroughly enjoyed learning the answer in Leanna Renee Hieber’s 11th novel. “The Spectral City” is the first book in her new gaslamp fantasy series. The story she presents is a fascinating and often surprising take on the paranormal. The diverse cast of characters provides an effective reminder that American society – and that of New York in particular – has always been richer, deeper, and more complicated than we tend to think. The author clearly channels her characters while some of them are channeling spirits. It will be interesting to see where this journey goes and I’m hopeful of learning the rules of the spiritual side of this universe as it unfolds.
