  • What A Fun Book!

What a fun book! The Steal by C.W. Gortner and M.J. Rose made me feel like I was in a 1950's movie. The book was not very long which lent itself to a movie script feel. I had fun imaging all of this in my head. I have to tell you that I love old movies. This was a new book but it felt like a blast from the past! There was a jewelry heist right as the Cannes Film Festival was too begin. Ania was the beautiful daughter who took over the famous jewelry store. Jerome was the investigator from the insurance company. Do you see a romance happening? They work together to solve the theft. I liked the characters. Ania was hard as diamonds and Jerome was a hard nose investigator who smokes. This book is so typical of an old movie but, that is what made it fun for me. The writing was spot on. The cadence and length of the book were well planned. If it was any longer, it would have reached the boring point. It didn't! I think it ended just where it needed to. I was still having fun! If you like old movies or anything that takes place in the 50's, I think you might like this book as much as I did. I think the authors had fun with The Steal too. I can just picture them working all the fun details out. I received a copy of this book from #Netgalley/#BlueBoxPress for a fair and honest review. Thank you!

  • Classic 1950s Jewel Heist

This story was more than I was expecting. An insurance recovery agent with a sordid WWII past is after a jewel thief. This is a good story with believable characters. The setting is classic late 1950s Europe with the famous actors of the time gathering at Cannes and wanting to be dressed in expensive, unique jewelry. The story keeps the reader hopping with few clues to who the thief is. The story ends with the suggestion of a story arc that will take a few episodes to cover. This should be a good series! I received this ARC book for free from Net Galley and this is my honest review.

  • Great Story!!

Although M.J. Rose is not new to me, and I love her stories, C.W. Gortner is new to me. I will gladly read more by these two authors. I enjoyed this romantic adventure and it was definitely suspenseful and had a surprise ending to me. I can’t wait to read more .

He is an investigator for the insurance company and has trailed the jewel thief before. Fast paced and engaging! Loved it! • Who is the mysterious thief?

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I found the characters well developed and the chemistry between them quite interesting. Ania is a famous jeweler, CEO of her own company after her father was taken out of control by the board. He taught her everything he knew. While in Cannes for the film festival all the jewels she brought with her are stolen. Enter Jerome, who is an investigator for her insurance company. He has a very interesting back story. He is convinced that the thief was someone he has been chasing for years, only known as The Leopard. In this case, there are none of the signatures the Leopard has used in the past. However, Jerome has a gut feeling that he is correct. I enjoyed the relationship between these characters. It was a fairly quick read. I know that this is a stand-alone, but I would love to see a sequel to this book.
