  • Hilarious, Heartfelt and Unique

Chocolate (massive win already), Switzerland, Ambition, Passion and Romance are the key elements that are beautifully woven in Amey Zeigler's "The Swiss Mishap". This romantic comedy is very unique for it follows the conventions of the genre but is still unconventional in its own right. Lainey Peterson is a truly authentic character who apart from dealing with the challenges of being miles away from home is repeatedly conched (the metaphoric element and the story of Rodolphe Lindt is one of my favourites) but she still stands up despite every adversity. Her journey of self-reflection (with her numbering system) and her growth is remarkable and you cannot help but cheer her on. Where do I even begin with M.Claremont! He is a complex contradiction who has waged a personal battle with himself and his character shines at several key moments in the book. The lead characters interactions are very engaging and Amey aligns this very well to cobblestone roads and beautiful landscapes of Switzerland. The ending is funny, heartfelt and oozes with sweetness. I cannot wait to read more of Amey's work. A 5 star read! A shoutout to VoraciousReadersOnly for giving me a free review copy of this book via the author.

  • The Swiss Mishap

The Swiss Mishap is an awesome read! I was not sure how I would like it at first but was hooked within the first couple of chapters. I found Lainey and Yves to be fun and entertaining characters. The setting is wonderfully beautiful and the story is so delightfully sweet. I highly recommend The Swiss Mishap. It is getting a well deserved five plus stars from me. I would love to read more like this from Amey Zeigler in the near future. I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.

  • Grab your chocolate & an adult beverage and enjoy!

Imagine flying halfway across the world, only to find out that your internship no longer exists and your best friend conveniently "forgot" to tell you. I probably would pass out, too. And thus being Lainey's rocky ride now in the Pet Food division at Alpine Foods, instead of the Chocolate division, which was her true passion and goal. But having Yves for a boss may not be the worst thing in the world. You can tell that Yves is somewhat amused by the American's antics and foibles, which will make you both cringe and laugh all at once. I can't help but like her and relate to her. Although, I do not have quite the obsession with chocolate that she does. I mean, I like chocolate, but she takes it to a whole other level for sure. Lainey also is terrifed of dogs after having been attacked several years ago. I also understand this fear, only my attack was much less than hers and didn't require several years of therapy. I also still had dogs throughout my ordeal. I also love the setting. I spent a few days along Lake Geneva some years ago, so this brings back some fond memories for me. I also get a kick out of the sprinklings of French words and phrasings for which I do not need a translation. This story has the necessary ups and downs for such a formulaic feel-good story, and yet it is different enough from any other you may have read. I recommend having some chocolate on hand, with or without a glass of wine or your favorite alcoholic beverage as you consume this sweet treat. I received a complimentary copy of this book and am voluntarily giving my honest review.

  • Sweet, Romantic, Delectable Read!!!

This book whisked me away on a sweet, romantic, delectable, savory journey to Switzerland, the Chocolate Capital of the World!!! This book has a creative story line, fantastic writing style that flows with meticulous and vivid scenes, well-developed characters, is evenly paced, and keeps you completely entertained through the last page. Lainey’s life has been pretty much wrapped up in chocolate and she has finally scored an internship of her dreams in Switzerland at Alpine Foods. When Lainey arrives super excited to start her shift in the chocolate department at Alpine Foods, she is heartbroken to discover her internship has been cancelled. However, the department chair, Yves, offers her an opportunity to still work for the company, but in the Pet Care department, and if she does well there, she might be able to then transfer back to the chocolate department. Although, Lainey has a fear of dogs, dating way back to an attack when she was a kid, working at Alpine Foods, has been her dream and she is not going to let anything interfere with that. This book was a delicious, enticing, enjoyable, entertaining, hilarious, inspiring, and satisfying read! I really enjoyed the main characters, Lainey and Yves. They were likable, relatable, and genuine. I really liked Lainey as she was smart, determined, passionate, enthusiastic, caring, and stubborn. I loved her love for chocolate. I loved how she associated it with so many fond memories and how she even used chocolate as a security blanket to help her get through difficult times. It was interesting hearing her recall enjoying chocolate when she was a kid while using it to block out her parents rocky marriage, her dad’s struggling business, and her teenage drama years – it was all about the chocolate and how she wanted to bring that same level of love, comfort, and armor to others. I also enjoyed Yves as he was ambitious, anxious, tenacious, sincere, persistent, and adamant. I really enjoyed Lainey and Yves together! There were definitely immediate sparks between these two and it was beautifully written in a romantic, enduring manner. Of course, there were still lots of witty banter and playful scenes between these two that made for some great LOL moments!! I think the author did an excellent job on her character development as these characters were so real and personal on many levels! A strong character development journey to root for and enjoy watching it unfold! The author’s writing is strong and eloquently detailed. She really provided so much detail in her writing that it was easy to picture – especially of beautiful, picturesque Switzerland. I have never been before, but it is definitely on my bucket list now! I also really enjoyed the funny, “Oh, those Americans,” scenes LOL!!! Lainey certainly got into some of those silly situations that only happen to Americans when they travel abroad – and they sure were entertaining!!! There are some predictable scenes. However, there are still a couple unexpected twists and turns that you won’t see coming! This book is technically not part of a book series and can be read as a standalone. All in all, I really enjoyed reading this book and would absolutely recommend it! I think all romantic comedy readers will like this book too! So, add it to your TBR List and get to reading - you won't be disappointed! **Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book and have voluntarily provided an honest, and unbiased review in accordance with FTC regulations.**

  • Truly Wonderful!

If your favoured reading material is a compelling tale with a good sprinkling of relationships, imperfection, romance, and humour then The Swiss Mishap by Amey Zeigler is a must-read for you! From the get-go there was so much happening in this comedic, wonderful tale of romance! The story was told from two different perspectives: those of Lainey and Yves. I was totally smitten with both protagonists. Lainey was smart, passionate and she had an amazing zest for life. Yves was ambitious, persistent, but was sincere. I totally adored the spark between the two of them and it was beautifully written with a romantic, endearing tone. Author, Amey Zeigler had really worked wonders with all of the characters in this fabulous story and I grew very fond of most of them, although there were one or two that were less than desirable. All had brilliant parts to play and even the baddies only added a little salt to this sweet, sugary tale. Aside from the brilliant cast of characters, another selling point of A Swiss Mishap for me was its fabulous setting of Switzerland. Although I have never been there, I have had a longing to visit for quite some time. Amey Zeigler had a magical, eloquent way of articulating the ambience of the place, the surrounding area and the general way of life there. I was also entranced by the author’s portrayal of Lainey’s love for chocolate. It was fantastic reading how she associated it with so many fond memories and how she used chocolate as a security blanket to help her deal with the difficult times in her life. The plot was awesome and moved along at a really comfortable pace and I loved the author’s general writing-style. There was no room for repetitiveness or boredom here! The story was funny and witty and there were many laugh-out-loud moments. I honestly can’t think of anything that dampened my enthusiasm for this fascinating tale. I was rooting all the way through for Lainey and Yves, and Amey Zeigler rounded things off nicely which I really appreciated. It was very hard to say goodbye to them and I found myself wishing them well for the future. I think this author is a force to be reckoned with and I am eagerly awaiting her next contribution. I recommend A Swiss Mishap without a flicker of hesitation, so don’t miss out! I received a complimentary copy of this novel from Goddess Fish Promotions at my request and this review is my own unbiased opinion.
