  • This will leave you begging for more!

Patricia Loofbourrow does it again with the latest installment in The Red Dog Conspiracy. I received this eBook free from the author in exchange for an honest review. For the best experience and understanding, I highly recommend you start with The Jacq of Spades (chapter 1), The Queen of Diamonds (chapter 2), The Ace of Clubs (chapter 3), The King of Hearts (chapter 4), The Ten of Spades (chapter 5), AND The Five of Diamonds (chapter 6) prior to reading The Two of Hearts (chapter 7) as each story builds upon the foundation of the preceding book. This series takes place in the far-flung future after a global catastrophe in the domed steampunk City of Bridges. This city is divided into quadrants that are ruled by 4 crime families. We follow the life and adventures of Jacqueline Spadros, lady of the Spadros family, who is a detective specializing in missing persons cases. As Jacqui solves cases, deals with the Families, and restrictions against women in neo-Victorian society, the story unfolds. Written in the style of old film noir detective stories, the story has lots of plot twists and turns that ensnare the reader from the beginning. I love that I can never exactly figure out where the story will lead or what will happen next in any of Jaqui’s cases. From the viewpoint of a retired deputy sheriff and a professor of Criminal Justice, police and detective procedures in the story are incredibly realistic making it easy to suspend my disbelief and enjoy this gritty steampunk noir mystery. Another excellent plot twist has me begging for more!

  • Suspenseful

Absolutely suspenseful to the very end. A drive by shooting and a life changed forever. Trying to take down the Red Dogs is almost an impossible task. Hooked on this series.

  • A Worthy Novel for the Red Dog Conspiracy Series

Originally posted on Tales to Tide You Over Once again, things are properly seeded in this book, and it ends on an ominous note. A few of the details jarred me, but I enjoyed being back in Jacqui's world. Some of my suspicions are confirmed, and she starts to ask the right questions. I don't know if she'll stay focused, and Jacqui still sees winning her freedom requires she cast aside those who care for her. There are interesting developments in that area, too, though. This book is a step on the path rather than a standalone story within the series arc, though there is a mystery researched and resolved. I doubt any Red Dog Conspiracy fans will be disappointed. I certainly wasn't. P.S. I received this Advanced Reader Copy from the author in hopes of a review.
