  • Superb forbidden romance!

To say I am at a loss for words is an understatement. Somehow, Saffron A. Kent took a seemingly simple premise of a married professor having a so-called affair with a student and turned it into one breathtaking and utterly exquisite read. I didn't know what to expect but as I sit here in the aftermath of The Unrequited, I am completely overcome with emotion and I'm beside myself with glee. The slow push and pull between Thomas Abrams and Layla Robinson is not in the least bit heartwarming. As a matter of fact, I thought Thomas was a bit of jerk most of the time. And not just to Layla but to the world in general. And yet, Layla finds a kindred spirit in her gruff professor and worms her way not only into his life but into his mind. At first glance, one would never realize they could find a common ground upon which to balance their hearts. Fragile hearts that have been left out to dry by those who should have cherished them. Layla and Thomas truly are the unrequited, both holding onto something that should have been let loose long before. Through Layla's determination to figure out the puzzle that is Thomas, both find that unexpected person who might just heal each other's broken psyche. Layla was relentless and omg did I love that about her. A young woman who has the biggest heart, who believes in love enough gladly force others to see it, even when she may never find it herself. One of the most selfless heroines I've ever had the pleasure to read, she owned up to her unfortunate indiscretions yet in a way, kind of wore them as a badge of honor. Her wisdom and her uncanny ability to see in Thomas, what he couldn't see in himself, was extraordinary. He did not deserve her through most of this book despite his own tortured existence. But they somehow fit in the most unpredictable way taking their jagged, misshapen lives and finding a way to savor them together. This is a book that will consume you. I had a few moments when I gasped out loud and when a few tears managed to escape due to the brilliance of the author's storytelling. It is nothing like other student/teacher romances out there. There is fierce passion between Thomas and Layla that is made all the more meaningful simply by the words laid bare between them. THIS is writing at its very best and will clearly solidify Saffron A. Kent as a go-to author for not only me but for a slew of readers. Not to be missed, I give The Unrequited 5+++ stars!!

  • Layla & Thomas <3

My first read by Saffron Kent and I was blown away! The Unrequited is a forbidden love story. One you don't want to happen but hope it does because no matter how much Layla and Thomas fight it their chemistry is on fire and I loved every bit of it! "I...feel like you could eat me alive with your mouth and I've never felt that before. I've never been anyone's sustenance, and I want to keep going forever." <3

  • An absolute delight to read

"Depth is misleading from the surface." Bear this in mind if you think that The Unrequited is yet another forbidden teacher/student romance, because it is so much more. It is an exquisite dance of undeniable passion, irresistible lust, unrequited love and heartbreak, a slow burning emotional journey of two flawed, wounded characters. A unique piece of art, an extraordinary reading experience that will leave you breathless and aching, and yet inhaling all the raw pain, the inner struggle and torment. Prose so vivid and evocative, gripping your heart with a myriad of emotions, shattering your heart into million pieces and somehow putting it back together again. "Explosive. It takes everything from you, sometimes more than you can afford. It's a beast, and it's always starving." An absolute delight to read!

  • Unrequited Love

First book I've read by this author and wow if I could give this book 10+ stars I would, Thomas and Layla's story had me hooked from chapter one, maybe in some ways I can relate and connect with the heroine. Her actions, thoughts and feelings for Thomas in some ways mirror my own for a particular person in my life only I probably won't get the same ending as Layla but that only happens in fictional romances anyway right? So if you have not read this book and plan on reading it, get ready for an intense emotional ride.
