    I Loved It

Shona, Lady Atterberry is dreading the house party she is attending. Once it's over she will have passed her majority and be able to take up the control of her own estate. None of the eligible bachelors took any notice of her until they learnt of her inheritance. She has been bullied most of her life, and her curvy body is unfashionable enough to cause comments. Captain Morgan Le Draco is badly scarred and at odds with his father. He refuses to accept money derived from slavery and is no longer in the military. He must find work so that he doesn't have to rely on the goodwill of his friends. Two lonely and extremely self conscious people learning to adapt to a more positive outlook . A sweet historical romance with wonderful characters. This is part of a series but each book can be read as a stand alone. You might meet up with the characters from the other stories. A lovely story to restore your faith in human nature. I loved it.

It really should be 3.5 stars

I love a wounded hero, be it physically, mentally or both. They make for more interesting characters. I also have a fondness for military heroes and that's Morgan. Physically scarred in ways that have the ladies who used to try to gain his attention turning away, he's not looking for love. His father is a controlling man who is trying to push him towards a life he wants nothing to do with. Morgan would rather be disinherited than to follow in his father's footsteps and take over the family business, something that goes against his moral code. Shona was a child when she made her first appearance in a previous book so I'm glad that she's grown up and getting her own story. She is a typical wallflower. She doesn't see herself as particularly pretty, feels she's too plump, extremely shy to those she doesn't know and she's a klutz. Mishaps find her despite her attempts to avoid them. Ridiculed and shunned by most of the females of the ton not to mention ignored by the eligible men, she's pretty sure she'll be a spinster but once it's known she's an heiress (despite a scandalous family history), the fortune hunters come out in droves and now she's got to avoid being trapped by them. She has a surprisingly sharp tongue when you get her riled but rarely has the opportunity to put her naysayers in their place. Shona was a child when she made her first appearance in a previous book so I'm glad that she's grown up and getting her own story. I'm a big fan of Ms Cameron. I love her characters and her writing style. I love that we get to see Shona's half sister and her best friend who were featured in previous books. I would've liked a little bit more interaction with those ladies and there are a few plot points that I wish were a bit more detailed but overall a good read and nice edition to the series. I'm looking forward to more and to see if someone in particular gets his story.
