  • A new take on female protagonists

It's not often you read books where the protagonist is a female AND in charge of a government, but Altarn is both and I was refreshed with this new perspective often pushed aside in favor of the typical male-dominating position in our media and real life. I had no idea where this book would lead from chapter to chapter, and forget trying to predict an ending, because all the things I predicted turned out to be SO wrong, from people not being who you thought they were to gender roles switched so the female rescues the man. The romantic element is mild, and it is blended well into the overall fantasy arc of the story so it adds to the tension and unexpected twists. The author's style is a good pace with new events that kept me interested. A book which leaves me hungry and aching for more after the ending deserves five out of five stars from me!

    Thanks for your feedback!
