The Wolf at the End of the World

I really enjoyed this book and plan on reading others he has written. I read a lot and was very moved by this story.

The Wolf at the End of the World

A combination of First Nations magic, politics and environmental commentary make for a surprisingly entertaining read. I was drawn in immediately and the fast paced action kept the relationships from becoming too predictable. This book is also a feast for the senses: the imagination is peaked by the author's detailed descriptions of the smells, sounds and sights of Northern Ontario. Using a blind adolescent on the cusp of discovering his heritage, both human and otherwise, to lead the reader, he has created a unique and sympathetic hero. Well, there are several heroes here, including a rat and grieving grandfather; just the right amount of expected entertainment value balanced by interesting and engaging characters. Smith avoids the saccharine but manages to tug the heart strings and get the blood moving in this cinematic novel. A good, simply fun, read.

A riveting story drawing on the myths and folktales of the rich culture of the northern native American Indian people. It's timely environmental message weaves in beautifully with age-old wisdom.

The wolf at the end of the world

I have never posted about a book before but was blown away by this story teller who captures the imagination with well researched accurate portrayals of native Canadian spiritualism and how it is integrated into modern life....with a dose of wonder and joy, sorrow and grief all mixed to be lives as they could be. Highly recommended even if speculative fiction is not your genre.

    Fantastic read

Hard to put down. Awe-some charcters and good plot twists. Would love to read more about them.
