    Third Son's a Chance

I jumped to grab this book from Shana. This is a very busy story line and there are a lot of people for reading. This is for adult readers. Lorraine wants to elope to Scotland as her father doesn't like her choice. Major Spoiler! Ewan got the job to keep Francis, his cousin, away from Lorrie. He bothered Ewan since they were children and said Ewan lied. Lorrie is smart to find how to get away to visit Francis. Now there is a series kidnapping in London. The girls get set free after money. Lorrie finds out that Ewan has dialectic reading and hard to talk. Dean is told by his father that he had put money in a deal and lost all their money. Major Spoiler! For all the pain they gave him growing up he will still try to get it back. Lorrie gave up Francis and is talking to Ewan and learns she was grabbed. Ewan has a group of friends to help him! There are other problems around her and Ewan. I liked this book. It was hard to put down. Check out this story! Grab a book to read and fall into like I did! Enjoy your reading!

    Strong Heroine Meets Quiet Hero!

Loved the story of Lorraine and Ewan. She was a feisty young lady who thought she knew what she wanted. She thinks she's in love with Ewan's cousin, Francis and Ewan is given the job to protect her from herself. I really liked that he never actually said anything against Francis to start out, except that he didn't love her and only wanted her dowry. She slowly figured it out by comparing Ewan's actions vs what Francis had said about him and his own actions. One thing Ewan says over and over, he doesn't lie. (Except to himself) I do have to say I hope we find out in the series if Lorraine does end up helping him overcome his problem! Thank you NetGalley for the copy!

    Exciting, inviting and delighting.

Ms. Galen knows what's appealing to the heart, but sets her sights on stimulating the mind. Third Son's a Charm is a seductive puzzle. Every sense is on high alert. Sizzling attraction puts a mischievous lady and a duty bound soldier on a collision course with romance and intrigue unlike any other. Hidden agendas, secret liaisons and read herrings at every turn make the road treacherous, but no less thrilling. Never malicious but always delicious, Shana Galen is romance on the edge. Exciting, inviting and delighting.

    As good as the cover!

I had so much fun reading this historical romance! I have to admit that the cover of this book is what first grabbed my attention. I am always a sucker for pretty covers and the cover of this book is simply gorgeous. I have enjoyed Shana Galen's work in the past and this sounded like a good story so I knew that I would have to read it. It turned out to be a very enjoyable read that was really hard to put down. Ewan knows his place in life. He is the third son of an Earl and is therefore rather useless to his family. He has been a solider and is known for some of his brave acts but that hasn't changed his father's opinion of him. Many see Ewan as a dimwit because he has been unable to learn to read. When he is offered a position to guard a Duke's daughter, he decides to take the job. Lorrie really wants to marry. So much so that she has recently tried to elope with her love, Francis. Lorrie is determined to make the marriage happen and believes that she and Francis are in love. The Duke opposes the match and tasks Ewan with making sure it does not happen. Ewan becomes a permanent fixture at all of the society events attended by Lorrie and her family. I loved these two together! Ewan tends to doubt himself since he has been told he is dumb his whole life. Lorrie sees him for the intelligent man that he truly is. Lorrie believes that she is in love with Francis but she soon learns that love is something very different. This pair had a lot of wonderful chemistry with each other and complimented each other quite nicely. I would recommend this book to fans of historical romance. The book is filled with wonderful characters and a few exciting moments. I can't wait to read the next book in this delightful series! I received an advance reader edition of this book from Sourcebooks Casablanca via NetGalley.

Quiet Viking + headstrong heroine + danger :D

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Third Son’s a Charm is the first book in Shana Galen’s new Survivors Series, involving the surviving band of Lieutenant Colonel Draven’s soldiers trying to find a new norm following the horrors of war. This is Ewan Mostyn’s story, the third son of the Earl of Pembroke, also known as The Protector. Ewan is the muscle in a gaming club until he is hired to serve as a bodyguard to Lady Lorraine Caldwell – Lorrie – the stubborn daughter of the Duke of Ridlington. However, their initial meeting sparks an animosity between them especially when they both learn who the other is and who Ewan needs to protect Lady Lorraine from. However, will the animosity remain, or will the sparks ignite a flame that burns hot with eternal love? More importantly, when Lady Lorraine end in serious trouble, will her “Viking” live up to his nickname and give his all to protect her? Ewan is considered as having more brawn than brains by a good number of the nobility, his family included. From the beginning, Ms. Galen hints at Ewan’s difficulties with regards to literacy. While nowadays this is considered as a common occurrence, I’m sure that in the Regency period, people with such problems were considered as “stupid” or “idiotic”. However, it is impossible not to see and love Ewan for what he is – highly intelligent while fiercely loyal and protective of those he must protect. Lorrie is a depicted as being the total opposite of Ewan physically. What she lacks in body, she makes up in spirit fails does not cower at Ewan’s intimidating glances. Unlike Ewan, who is extremely concise in his words, she is quite the fearless, determined chatterbox. Let us not forget Lorrie’s fur ball Wellington, a small-breed dog who is instrumental in the story when the real trouble arrives. Well done Shana Galen for writing such a heartfelt story with genuine characters deviating from the “meek” heroine and “certain-of-his-every-move” hero. Definitely a great start to a new series which must not be missed!
