    Twists you can't expect

I originally gave this book a three, then a four, then contemplated a three. I guess it's a three and a half star book for me, and I rarely do that! My struggle was that I loved the writing and the characters were written in a way that you loved to hate them, or hated that you loved them. In my book, that tells me that the author did a great job of pulling me into the story and making me care. Still, the characters frustrated me. The decisions they made did not always make sense to me. I wanted to shout at them, "Why don't you just call the police?" But obviously that wouldn't have gotten me an answer to my question, and the author did not volunteer an explanation for why characters did not choose the simple way. Though in some respects I think she intended for the reader to chalk it up to, "That's just not what this family did..." but that was not enough for this reader. That said, the twists this book takes are completely unexpected. The author gives no hint at any foreshadowing so you simply cannot guess where this story will lead you. For that reason, it kept my attention and made for a much improved rating. While this was not my most favorite book, I would not discourage others who like psychological thrillers to forego this one. It was a good read, and I suspect will provide other readers with a few hours of enjoyment/escape as it did for me.

    What a corker

I've just finished reading this. We've got company and I've been busy reading rather than interacting with her - she's family so she understands. It's a fascinating book. Just when you think you've got to the bottom of it there's an occurence that takes you off at a tangent. Hopefully, it's just me, but I could fit so many members of my family into the people of the book - gave an exaggerated idea of what my life could have been. Good book.

    Genial

Me pareció genial. Me atrapó desde el inicio y con ayuda del traductor (en algunas partes) pude disfrutarlo.

    Three Secrets

A great read about families and how dysfunctional they can be whilst appearing so prim and proper to the outside world. A great many issues were raised in this book including the little known or talked about domestic violence perpetrated by the female partner upon the male. This is a more common event than statistics reveal due to society's commonly held view that the female partner in a relationship is the victim.

    Gripping

The start of the story seems like there are a dime a dozen, but I felt an undercurrent of something that was not quite right. Why was the atmosphere so strained? Very soon, you feel like you are a speck of dust in front of a powerful hoover. You can't resist and are sucked into the tube. You have to follow the winding road full of twists and turns until you arrive in its belly where you keep swirling. You can only settle down when the hoover is switched off at the end of the book. If, by any chance, you are still wondering how I felt about the book? The answer is easy : I loved it!
