    A must read

Very sad and a must read. A book that is hard to put down. Make sure you have a box of tissues with you while you are reading.

    Thorough, brutal, well-researched!

This is a story to make note of. The author has done a fantastic job of creating a 3-dimensional view of this prolific and terrifyingly glib serial killer as well as presenting the human side of this tragic member of our society. Having worked with criminals with sometimes very severe personality disorders, I have much empathy for the difficult paths those people have traveled to get them to get them to a place where they are unwelcome in society. I have also never doubted that my first consideration when thinking about the release of my charges back into the community is the safety of that community. It's a travesty that our society is unable to identify people like Mr. Sells before they are so damaged that there is no way back for them to be a positive and contributing member of society. There is also no way to tell a charming and well-spoken humanitarian from a charming and well-spoken sociopath without knowing their long term behaviors, and even that is not a guarantee. In the end, all we can do is to be cautious and observant and live our lives the best way we can without becoming a victim of our own fears.
