  • Helpful, but...

I found this essay very informative and helpful. I have always found dialog tags to be cumbersome but found Ms. Hyzy's examples, particularly her demonstration of movement tags, very insightful. One thing that bugged me a little (because it jolted me out of the text) was a few errors in spelling and grammar. If the teacher is going to open the lecture with a sermon on correct language use, she should lead by example. (OK, maybe it was the editor's mistake.) Nit-picking aside, I think this is a writing tool that will always be nearby for quick reference when I'm working.

  • Great short read!

Loved that it was short with a lot packed in. But also fun to read. Great helpful advice that I know I will be using forever!

  • Dialogue

Excellent for learning how one needs to write dialogue. It is a short cursory of what one would want to keep in mind when writing a novel. Dialogue is not to be like " mashed potatoes" which is explained in the book to not be a filler but to move a story along. The book highlights examples of different dialogue that is poorly written and others as examples that are well written to provide the reader insights to build upon in writing style. This is a good book to read before writing as a refresher in improving ones' novel or short story
