    Would have loved it but...

This is the first book I've read by this author and initially I really didn't expect to like it. No young lady would be allowed to be alone with a young man at this time period. To have him hold her hand or kiss her in front of society and her guardian would be out of the question. If you are a stickler for the rules governing behavior you will definitely dislike this book. And this was the way I felt until Victoria and Alex wed (before the 20% mark, I believe). After this point, their behavior can be deemed acceptable even if PDAs weren't the norm. I found the H and h to be a cute couple. Sweet. She's adorably naïve at 18 while at 29, Alex is sure of his superiority and his will shall be obeyed. Victoria believes in love while Alex knows that women are not to be trusted. Ever. There is no mystery nor murder in this story, although there are villains. Betrayal and a lack of trust cause a lot of angst and require a lot of groveling before we get a HEA but the journey is definitely worth it. The story is sweet, emotional and funny. And FYI- no cheating. I am very glad I stuck with it despite the unruly behavior at the beginning. (BTW- I tried to properly spell 'behavior' like a good Canadian but apparently autocorrect thinks it shouldn't be spelled with a U. What's up, eh?)

    Heart throbbing!

A very heart throbbing tale! The best story in the Douglas series. Patricia did it again!
