    Just ok for me

I struggle writing this review. I have loved all the prior books I've read from this author but I just didn't feel this one lived up to my expectations. To be fair though, there are a number of good points about the book too so to summarize from my perspective, the good - good writing, lots of steamy hot sexy times, strong female lead, yummy male lead, and a perfect HEA ending. The bad - I'm not a fan of the on a dare trope so maybe this colored my judgement, the fact that the female lead knows about the bet and still gets involved rubbed me wrong. I just didn't feel the chemistry or connection between Natalie and Jack. Those are my thoughts but if you are a fan of this trope then I would recommend it.

    To Dare a Seal

Jack and Natalie have been ignoring their attraction for a while. She doesn't trust, and he isn't relationship material. At least that is what they keep saying to themselves. Then Jack's obnoxious brothers show up with him at the bar. They continue to belittle him—big bad SEAL—and she makes a pseudo play for him to give him cred. That leads to a bet that he can get her in bed. Great, she tries to help and they start a bet he can't get her in bed—during the destination Los Vegas—wedding of her sister and best bud and his SEAL team member. She can resist him and if she keeps telling herself that she may believe it. Their car trip and Best Man Maid of Honor duties throw throw them together. While she fights he does too and he is yummy irresistible. Ever hear of phone sex in person? The author takes it to a new art. While the story is steamy, it is also touching to see how their past has affected these strong adults. It is touching, funny, shows all the good and some of the bad in the human. Make sure you paint a mental picture of the maid of honor gown. I'll just say it is pink. I strongly recommend this book. I was provided an ARC for an honest review.

    sexy SEAL meets his match!

The second book in the Sin City SEALs series is a sexy, romantic tale about a woman afraid to take chances and a man who promises to catch her if she'll just let herself fall for him. Natalie is the sister of Lucia and best friend to Cade, the heroine and hero of book 1 of the series. She's a tough girl, a no nonsense bartender. She and her sister were in the foster parent system after the untimely death of their parents and she's learned to fight for herself, not giving an inch when it comes to her heart. Enter Jack, one of Cade's SEAL teammates and a handsome devil to boot. As the youngest of a slew of brothers he's learned how to look after himself too but isn't above taking a bet to make his older brother look foolish. The problem is the bet itself - to get Natalie to give him the time of day (or more accurately the time of his life in bed) is one she overhears and she's up for the challenge, to prove to her handsome distraction that she's not going to fall for his tricks. Together in Vegas for her sister and Cade's wedding, Natalie might fight her attraction to Jack but giving in would be so much sweeter. Will the winner come home with the prize or will all bets be off in the game of love? I was delighted to return to this series, as I had thoroughly enjoyed Lucia and Cade's story and was interested in seeing Natalie meet her match. What I enjoyed about this story was that they take turns being in control in their bedroom antics (because of course they end up there eventually, even though they share some steamy scenes prior to the main event). Jack is really quite a sweetheart and treats Natalie with kid gloves part of the time, not wanting to scare her off by admitting to her that he wants more than just a night in the sack. Even though the bet is his pretense to get her to really see him and acknowledge that she's attracted to him, the real thing he's after is her, and a chance to prove to her that he's not going to give up or run out on her as has happened with her loved ones in the past. He sees her fragility, but he also sees her strengths. Natalie is understandably hesitant about getting involved with anyone, especially a SEAL who could be called away on a mission at any time and not return. But Jack is pretty convincing that he'll do his best to always come home to her, if she'll let that happen. There was lots of fun banter between them, and their love scenes have a ring of truth to them, that their emotions are more deeply involved than Natalie wants to admit. I loved seeing them get their happy ending. Looking forward to more of Jack and Cade's comrades finding their happy endings too! 4 stars.

    Sexy and fun!

Natalie Lewis works as a bartender in Coronado, California. She is two days away from attending her younger sister’s wedding in Las Vegas; her sister is marrying Natalie’s best friend, Cade Daniels. And that’s when Prince Charming walks in: Navy SEAL Jack Barnes. Jack is accompanied by his brothers. Natalie and Jack fancy each other, but have never acted on it; Natalie, because of a difficult childhood, doesn’t want to make permanent attachments. She is a very independent and take-charge kind of woman, still Jack and Natalie have a playful non-relationship, and when Jack’s brother Colton makes a disparaging comment towards Jack, Natalie kisses Jack. Then Colton bets Jack he can’t get Natalie into bed. Natalie overhears the conversation, so she is prepared. But a little problem surfaces: Jack is Cade’s best man, but something comes up and Natalie will have to take Jack along with her to Vegas. She swears Jack will not win, and since both like to win, it’s game on! TO DARE A SEAL charmed me from the opening lines, which are quite funny, and I really liked the tone of the book, overall. I was also very pleasantly surprised that the bet issue did not go the way I expected; Ms. Stone dealt extremely well with that plot twist, which for me can kill a story if not well done. There are, of course, several sexy bits, but the author provides plenty of character development and thorough, and necessary, backstories. My heart went out to Natalie; she has built a nearly impregnable wall around her, and her reasons are heartbreaking; I’m not a crier, but Ms. Stone had me wiping my cheeks a few times. Jack and Natalie have great chemistry, the banter they exchange is most entertaining, and I loved how the relationship progressed. TO DARE A SEAL is a very sexy book with a lot of depth and intelligence! I give 4 ½ stars I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

    Battle of the sexes

3.5 Stars I don't know about you but if I overhear a bet being made on whether or not a guy can get in my pants, my reaction would be "see ya!" and not "bring it", so Natalie's reaction was a bit unexpected but intriguing enough for me to want to see how her story would play out once I got past my issues with the bet. It didn't hurt that Jack is a very hot SEAL who just happens to be a very sweet and irresistible guy with a major case of the hots for her. Natalie loves to be in control and won't give Jack the time of day in spite of the fact that she is just as interested in him. Honestly, it was hard for me to like her because of her resistance to any connection, but she doesn't trust people to stick around and would rather be alone than take chance on getting hurt. What begins as a bet becomes a lot more as Jack slowly chips away at Natalie's walls and shows her that she is worthy of being loved. For Jack, having Natalie in his life for good is worth losing the bet, but will he be able to convince Natalie to let go of the fears and guilt that she has held onto for so long and take a chance on love? Can Natalie trust Jack to keep his word and return to her especially because of the dangerous nature of his job? I loved Jack and how gentle, patient and solid he was, and how he saw past the feisty exterior to Natalie's kind and loving side. My only problem was that Natalie's issues took up most of the book and made it longer than necessary, distracting from their hot, sexy chemistry and their fun banter. It took me some time get into this story but I ended up enjoying it. TO DARE A SEAL is a steamy, sexy and unexpectedly emotional romance.
