  • Rom-Com Fun

Julia Carpenter is tired of the dating life. When her job at an on-line website is threatened to layoffs, Julia needs to come up with an excellent idea to stay employed. Julia ends up finding about a new Rom-Com type resort opening up a few hours away and manages to score invites for her and her two best friends, Kat and Andie. Together the friends will spend a week there while Julia is undercover and then she can do a write up on the new resort for her company. Just after arriving, Julia crashes into Luke O'Neal and has a fun, but not-so-fun meet cute. The attraction is there but Julia wonders if it is all real. During the week Julia and Luke keep spending more time together and things are escalating quickly. In between all the fun Rom-Com things Julia is starting to think things with Luke are real. Just when it looks like Julia may have found her soul mate with Luke, things come crashing down because of secrets both of them are keeping. It will take a lot of soul searching on both of their parts to finally realize that what they have is truly real. I just loved Too Good to Be Real by Melonie Johnson. Ms. Johnson creates such fun characters and equally entertaining stories in all her books. Julia loves Rom-Coms and many movies people love get weaved into the story. Julia was a fun and cute character. She went into this job not expecting to find love but then surprising does. Luke, the nerdy, computer geek was certainly not expecting to find love at the resort but it just came crashing into him. I loved both of these characters....they just worked. I also adored all the other characters. This story kept me laughing and swooning the entire time. I highly recommend this book!

  • Not my cup of tea

I've enjoyed previous Melonie Johnson books that I've read, so I was anxious to read Too Good to Be Real. I was really hoping I was going to love this one more than I did and let me explain why. I'm a lukewarm Rom-Com movie lover. There some I've loved and some I've not. To be honest, there are a lot I haven't seen - I'd rather read than watch movies! With that said, this book was laced with references to Rom-Coms that I'm sure to some people would have made this so enjoyable/funny, but for someone like me, it was just okay. Kind of like an inside joke I didn't understand. I liked the plot of writer Julia who was concerned about losing her job, so she wanted to come up with a pitch to try to save her job. When she was presented with a chance to go to an estate where she could live out basically her own romantic comedy movie, she jumped at it. Plus, she was able to bring her best friends. Luke, who is working with his sister and friend, to make sure the resort is ready for the event, is taken by surprise when he has his own meet cute with Julia. He's definitely not expecting this and then he's forced to pretend he's a guest! This was a really creative book and I give Johnson a lot of credit for the way she worked in all of the rom-com references. Even though it didn't excite me as much as I had hoped, I have a feeling it's going to be a hit with a lot of people.

  • Funny with a ton of heart

Julia's got one last chance to save her journalism job. She's taking part in a week-long role-playing game at a resort where guests live out their romantic comedy fantasies. Convinced that true love is a lie, she expects to write a review about how the experience falls short of expectations. Then, she meets Luke. Unbeknownst to Julia, Luke isn't a guest. He's the software engineer who designed the game. And he's got a big bonus coming if the debut of the game is a success. The attraction between them is instantaneous, but they're both keeping secrets. What will happen when the truth comes out? This book was a pleasure to read right from the start. It's funny with a ton of heart, the friendships playing almost as large a role as the romantic relationship. If you like rom com with a bit of steam, don't miss this one. Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.

  • To good to be real

The book is based on a movie theme type of romantic fun. Its about different types of love, new, rekindle, siblings and best friends. The games and entertainment at the resort brought extra humor to the book.

  • Has all the feels, don’t miss this one!

Loved this book. So much more than a rom com. The story is not only fun but has depth and all the feels. We meet Julia, Luke and the supporting characters and their side kicks, which include sweet corgis and a conniving pair of sea gulls. Add this one to the top of your TBR list, it is not to be missed.
