  • Exciting Tale of Friendship

I bought "Trygg" for an eight-year-old friend who absolutely loved it! Tons of action surrounds the story of two dinosaur buddies with a surprising, unbreakable bond of friendship. The characters are brought to life by the artists' detailed illustrations. An excellent kids' book

  • Full of heart

Reviewed by Liz Konkel for Readers' Favorite Trygg the Dinosaur by Paula Louise Salvador is a delightful story about the strength of friendship between two dinosaurs. Trygg is newly hatched, finding himself alone and having to run from a mudslide that wipes out what remains of his nest. As he ventures out on his own, he faces bullies and struggles to teach himself how to hunt. Then he meets Alta who, like him, is a misfit. Alta is the outsider of her herd, without any parents and hampered by a foot injury. When she meets Trygg, she's shocked to discover he's nothing like the other meat-eaters who hunt her kind. The two form an unlikely friendship which is put to the test as they face growing friction between their two species and struggle to survive in a harsh environment. Paula Louise Salvador delivers a sweet read for children of all ages to enjoy and learn about the world of two little dinosaurs. Trygg and Alta are both great characters, each facing challenges in their lives with both being orphans and viewed as misfits. Both deal with being ostracized which allows them to build an unlikely bond through an understanding of what the other is going through. Along with the dangers they face, they also face various dangers in the environment with quicksand and mudslides. Together Alta and Trygg overcome their fears and discover bravery they didn't know they were capable of. Salvador breathes such life into this world of dinosaurs by making Alta and Trygg well-rounded characters children will love. Friendship is a key theme as the two form a forbidden friendship and develop a strong bond which drives each to protect the other. The story also features a few stunning illustrations which are in black and white and add a sweet touch as you see what the dinosaurs look like. Salvador's tale of friendship is a true testimony to standing up for others and finding your own bravery. Trygg the Dinosaur explores themes of friendship and being true to oneself in a story full of heart, with an inside look at the dangerous world of dinosaurs.

  • The illustrations are stunning

This story reminded me of a Land Before Time installment for older kids. You have these two young dinosaurs who have been orphaned soon after they hatch. Trygg is a meat-eater and Alta is a plant-eater. There's no way that they should be friends, and yet they strike up a friendship in spite of what their respective herds believe. And it's not easy to do so. You learn a lot about friendship and being kind. I also learned some new dinosaurs! Even after 20 years of teaching, I'm still learning new dinosaurs. So that was fun for me. At the back of the book, you get some facts about the various ones represented in this story. And the illustrations are just stunning. I have one friend who is able to draw like that and I am always blown away by them. It's a talent I'll never have! Chapters are nice and short which will keep children's interest. I think it could make for a good read aloud. Thank you to the author and Goddess Fish for providing me with a requested review copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

  • Quick, interesting story.

I enjoyed this little tale of Trygg, a Troodon. He made friends with Alta, an Hypacrosaurus, though they should have been enemies. Their friendship was pushed to its limits with all the dangers from nature and other dinosaurs. In the end, though, that friendship helped them succeed. This was definitely an interesting quick story, and I recommend it to children interested in dinosaurs as well as adults. I received a copy of this story through Goddess Fish Promotions, and this is my unsolicited review.
