    Worth a read

I absolutely loved Emma Chase's writing style in TANGLED and really couldn't resist the follow-up. I'm going to say that when I started reading it, I was expecting it to be like Tangled, which is not the case. I'm glad to say that I got my wish and got to find out more about Kate. Though TWISTED contains more of the humor we have come to expect from Ms. Chase, it takes a more serious look into Kate and Drew's relationship. In every fairy tale, the guy gets the girl and they sail off into the sunset and live happily ever after, right? Well, that's definitely not the case here. TWISTED begins a couple of years after Tangled ends and we find Kate and Drew basking in the glow of their love. They work hard, play hard, go on romantic trips and Drew introduces Kate to lots of new experiences. At work, they are the dream team. They are living the life and all is well in their world, at least in the beginning. Until THE MISUNDERSTANDING. One that could have been resolved with minimum fuss by asking the right questions. I'll do my best to keep this free of spoilers for those who have not yet read this book. Drew is still not completely sure of Kate's feelings for him and still requires the occasional reassurance that he is it for Kate. That uncertainty leads him to overreact when faced with the possibility that things may not be as they should be. Being Drew and not willing to admit to being vulnerable, he chooses attack as the best form of defense and does the one thing he promised never to do: hurt Kate. Hurtful things are said, hurtful actions are taken and I just felt my heart break for them. I could not see how they would come back from this, short of a miracle. The upside to this is that we get to really know Kate. Her background, her fears, her insecurities and also her friendships with her best friend Delores and her ex, Billy. We watch Kate make hard choices and become the fierce and independent woman she always appeared to be. Once again, Ms. Chase delivers on the humor but she also imbues the characters with a depth that was not evident in Tangled and highlights the fact that clear communication is one of the keys to a successful relationship. Readers who are expecting more in the vein of Tangled will be disappointed because TWISTED stands all by itself.
