    Great story

I love Fae stories and this one was new and different to me as is the author. I enjoyed the book. I think sometimes the POV chapters threw me off at first but I quickly recovered. Merc was a very interesting character and she's within a grey area of legal and illegal but she does whats right and thats why she's so likable. Dul was interesting. I wasnt sure what to make of him at first. There was some chemistry between the 2 but there was so much going on that it came in bits. No real love scenes in this book but a few stolen moments. This to me read more of UF which I do tend to love. :) Great story and hopefully this isnt the end for Merc and Dul. I also loved how Dul didnt smother her and wanted to let her do what she desired as well as serving him as King and always coming back to him. Loved him.

    Good urban fantasy read

In a world where the Fae are real, Merc is a shapeshifter - and as her chosen name suggests - she is a mercenary. She uses her abilities to protect hybrids from those who prey on them. An orphan, she has no memory of her parents, and if not for a Changeling couple who took her in, she likely would have died. Now, she wants to make enough money to escape poverty with her boyfriend. (Paris is a former vamp addict.) When Dúl offers her a way to do just this, she needs to decide whether getting involved in the Courts business is worth it. Ms. Stanet provides just enough of a framework for the reader to understand the world Merc resides in. The story itself is fairly predictable for a discerning reader, but what raises this book from others of its ilk are the characters. Merc is an interesting; she is independent and can kick ass and for all that she is a mercenary, she is also compassionate. Dúl's interaction with Merc are fun to read and it was a pleasure to watch how Merc attempts to outmaneuver him at times. At the same time, I didn't love how easily she caves to him at times. The book is told primarily in the first person but there are interludes with other characters that help to flesh out parts of the plot. The tensions between the Courts is interesting but too little time is really spent in developing why the tension exists. In many ways, it feels like Ms. Stanet doesn't want to write herself in a corner so left plenty of room for additions if she opts to continue this - something I hope she does. There is a lot of potential to this universe and these characters.

    Unique story

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review I enjoyed this world. Merc is there to take care of the less fortunate and she is a sharpshifter who can change into anything . She goes on a mission she's hired for and finds out who hired her. The only thing I missed was her getting her childhood memories back I want to know who her parents are and what happened but that would also make a good 2nd book.
