  • I loved it

Need a new book to devour? Then I have a winner for you! This is an absolutely delicious first book in a new series. I could not put it down, it grabbed me from the get go. The characters were realistic and interesting and the whodunit was well written and the pacing was top notch. The premise is unique and you will be craving a grilled cheese guaranteed! I look forward to reading the next book in the series. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

  • A new favorite cozy series!!!!!

Carly Hale has lost her husband and has decided to go back to her hometown to rebuild her life. She also has decided to follow her dream and open a restaurant. Just when life seems to be going well, the new owner of the building Carly is renting decides she needs to move as he has plans for the building that don’t include her. When the new owner is found dead, Carly’s employee becomes the prime suspect. Now Carly has to figure out who really killed Lyle to keep her employee from getting burned and her restaurant from going up in flames. This is a great first entry in this new cozy series. I love cheese, I love cozies, and I love a good whodunit, so whatnot to love in this one? Can’t wait for more from this author. Guess we have some grilled cheese sandwiches in our future as reading this made me crave some warm, gooey cheese!

  • Great start to a new cozy mystery series

Up to No Gouda is a delightful first book in the Grilled Cheese Mysteries by Linda Reilly! Living in Wisconsin I love cheese and have eaten many grilled cheese sandwiches, so it was fun reading what creations Reilly came up with, and I really enjoyed the recipes at the end of the book. While her food writing made me crave a sandwich, where Reilly really shined was in her character development though! Carly has had some huge changes in her life recently which made her an interesting and complex character, but what I really enjoyed was that Reilly didn’t dwell on it. That was very refreshing since I’ve read some cozies (and other books) where half of the book has the character droning on and on about it. When I pick up a book it’s usually to get lost in a new world, not to get depressed. Carly’s two employees, Suzanne and Grant also have some interesting quirks about them… although we learn a bit more about Grant in this book then Suzanne. I’m looking forward to getting to know some of the Grilled Cheese shop regulars more and to seeing how the love interest turns out. The mystery itself had some twists and turns, and although I figured out some of it, I was still surprised, which is always fun. I’m looking forward to book two, No Parm No Foul, which comes out at the end of July 2022, and encourage you to pick this one up if you enjoy cozy mysteries.

  • Up To No Gouda!

Carly Hale moves back to Balsam Dell to pursue her lifelong dream of opening Carly's Grilled Cheese Eatery. After a couple of months, business is booming as people flock to lunch on her grilled cheese concoctions. Then, Lyle Bagley, Carly's former boyfriend and now town bully, buys the building that houses her eatery and wants to evict her. But, when Lyle is discovered dead behind the dumpster of Carly's shop, one of her employees becomes a major suspect. In order to save her eatery and prove her friend's innocence, Carly must sleuth out the killer before she's the one who gets grilled. I loved this new culinary cozy mystery and hope that the author has many more stories. Carly is a very likeable character who is finding new life after dealing with a tremendous loss. She's a very inspiring character. The plot of the story was a real puzzle, and I was surprised by the identity of the culprit. I'm unsure whether a grilled cheese eatery would be a viable business in the real world, but I would love to visit Carly's eatery again. I received an advanced reader's copy from NetGalley and this review is my honest opinion.

  • A Super Duper First Instalment

Carly Hale has returned to her hometown of Balsam Dell, Vermont and has recently opened Carly's Grilled Cheese Eatery. She is doing really well selling her cheesy treats until her ex-boyfriend, Lyle Bagley is found dead and one of her employees is the prime suspect. The first in a new series by Linda Reilly, Up to No Gouda has twists and turns to hold my interest. The storyline moves along swiftly and the characters are colourful. The star of the show is the scruffy beige young dog, Havarti. I look forward to getting to know Carly et al. better in the upcoming books. I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Poisoned Pen Press via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.
