    Roman Britain

Goldsworthy knows his subject extremely well and uses this knowledge to recreate a living history with integrity and sympathy. Lots of blood and gore but integral to the story and balanced with the humanity of the characters.

    Vindolanda

Thoroughly entertaining and we'll written story. The main characters were convincing and the detail in the descriptions of the Roman army and the local British tribes was excellent.

    Graphic portrait

Found the organization and tactics used by the Roman military in Britain very interesting as well as the author’s afterword which differentiated fact from fiction. The hero is intriguing so I look forward to reading the next book in this series.
