Caught Between A Rock And A Hard Place

Giles Templeton is the son of an Earl but has no title of his own. In Wagering For Miss Blake, he instead has a gift for investments, is handsome, charming, and quite eligible. Mothers of the ton have been throwing marriageable young women at Giles for years now. Who wouldn’t want a good-looking rich husband with a charming personality? He has everything a young woman could desire in a husband. Everything, perhaps, except a title. Suzanna Blake must marry a title. She doesn’t want to, she couldn’t care less about a title. Suzanna’s ideal husband would be one who loves her and cares for her deeply. Suzanna, however, has a mother with other ideas. Although she is still back in the country because of an ague that doesn’t mean her dictates can be ignored. Her mother did not marry a title, and she is quite happy with her husband. Still, she is obsessed with the idea of a title and insistent that Suzanna not entertain the attentions of any untitled gentlemen. Giles Templeton is determined to make Suzanne his wife. He has even gotten to the point where he bet her that he cannot only win her hand but her heart as well. If Suzanna wins the bet her favorite charity will get quite an influx of cash. If Giles wins he gets her hand in marriage. Suzanna doesn’t know what she’ll do if he wins. It doesn’t matter what happens, her mother will not allow her father to except any man without a title. Caught Between A Rock And A Hard Place The author created an engaging story with these two characters. They’re both attracted to each other and so there should be no obstacles, except for the edict of the mother. It would be shocking to put a bet on the engagement of a young woman. It is even more shocking that she set one herself. I like shocking. There are many setbacks, and obstacles to be overcome in this story which makes it very interesting. I will definitely be looking up more works by Callie Hutton. Reviewed for LnkToMi iRead in response to a complimentary copy of the book provided by the publisher in hopes of an honest review.

    Promising

I have read many books out of the author Callie's kitty & liked her stories but this was a surprising disappointment... i didnt like it much . the story was okay. This script doesn't contain the fire, excellence that Callie's penmanship has !!! This book was so predictable & Giles comes out as a pathetic lover boy ...he is smart, wealthy, handsome, has a midas touch but he loses his senses when it comes to Suzanna, also him falling so deeply in love is unbelievable .. Suzanna character in fact portrays sensibility, she knows her mind, limits ...also the wager didn't make sense ...i just couldnt relate to it... so it was an ok read. hope to read other work from Callie ... This was a honest review not with an intent to hurt as i know the hard work, dedication a author puts in her creativity ...

    Love at First Sight

Love at first sight, does it exist? Giles Templeton, the third son of an Earl, always gets what he wants. Or does he? When it comes to ladies they have clamored after him. But when he first sets eyes on Miss Suzanna Blake he is stuck with the arrow. Going right toward her to get an introduction, he turns his charm on and knows she is the one for him. As they dance, Suzanna does feel a spark but knows she has to stay away from the handsome Giles. Her mother has declared she can only marry a man with a title and of course Giles does not have one. But Giles is determined and sets to wear her down so she will not care if he is titled or not. What he does not know is it is not Suzanna, but her mother who is adamant and she has no say in the matter. A whirlwind of house parties, balls and strong pursuit makes Giles more and more attractive but what is she to do? I wanted to just shake Suzanna and have her tell her mother to get over it, but the trail to true love is sometimes long and one can only hope love prevails! Part of a series, this can be read as a standalone but I am looking forward to reading stories of two friends of Giles in the future!!

    Great, Light Read.

I enjoyed this book, but not to the point of re-reading this book again. Callie Hutton's writing style was captivating and interesting because this book captured my interest from the very start. However, at some point, because of Suzanna's constantly torn towards being dutiful daughter and fend of Giles's affection when she likes him the same, I was frustrated. I had hoped now and again for Suzanna to grow a backbone. After all, it was her happiness that is important while her mother's reason of animosity towards non-titled gentlemen was because she was jealous because her siblings had married titled gentlemen. But neither of her sisters were happy in their matrimony while Suzanna's father really loves her. This just baffles me. Overall, it was still a great story to be read. Each character has their own development, which I commend to the author's skill. The focus on filial and dutiful daughter allows development in every area, good or bad. That I think is great way to make up for the plot. I received an e-ARC via Netgalley in exchange for honest review. Full review via Affinity For Books.
