    an entertaining read

4.5 Stars Waiting for my Queen was my first read by this author and I am impressed with her superb writing skills. The story is captivating and she will take you on an epic journey that is sure to keep you entertained from beginning to end. This book has checked off all of my boxes - mafia-themed romance, imperfect anti-hero, a strong heroine, and some scorching scenes interspersed with moments of action and suspense. I wasn’t sure about this book when I first dived into it as it is set in 1978, however, I found that the historical aspect didn’t affect my enjoyment of this fast-paced book at all. What you have is a marriage contract between two powerful, ruling families, but things go horribly awry thus setting the tone for this spellbinding mafia romance. Luca Rossini is definitely an anti-hero and I loathed him in the beginning. He is demanding, ruthless, and commits a rather heinous act that left me wondering if he would be redeemable. The author does a brilliant job with the character evolution of this beautifully flawed, exacting mafia bad boy. Emelia Bellini is a mafia princess. Promised to one and in love with another. She possesses an inner strength to her and I love how she doesn’t always put up with Luca’s nonsense. To say that these two have chemistry together is an understatement. There were quite a few kindle melting moments that left thankful that I reading those passages in public! How this love story unfolds is impressive. I went from abhorring the hero to loving him in the end. The character development was impeccable as was the author’s ability to illustrate how their relationship evolved over time. However, I did still grapple with something that occurred at the beginning of the book and just couldn’t completely reconcile myself with it - hence 4.5 stars instead of a solid 5 star rating. Overall, I found Waiting for my Queen to be a very enjoyable read with complex characters, an engaging storyline, and good plot execution. I am truly hoping that this author gives some of the secondary characters their own book because I am not ready to say goodbye to the Rossinis and Bellinis. I read an early complimentary version of this book.

Okay, so there are a few things I have to say about Waiting for my Queen by Georgia Cates... I absolutely enjoyed this riveting, dark, disturbing, and twisted story. Georgia invites you into this world that you expect to be the same as everyone else has written. A dark mafia boss that steals the girl away. But Georgia takes it so much deeper. I wouldn't say Waiting for my Queen is darker as there is no darkness in the love that Luca and Emilia have for each other. At the beginning of the story, there is NO love at all. Once the love between the two is there the love is pure and engaging. Luca is a dark and disturbed man. He lets drugs and emotions rule his life before Emilia. I have to say drug use in a book is a huge trigger for me, but I powered through because that is what makes his book so interesting. You almost need the drugs due to the time era and because of what he does at the beginning of the book and how he explains why he does what he does. Emilia is young and makes a few mistakes in this book, but emotions and family obligations are a lot for a 21-year-old. How she deals with both of those I command her. Luca does not make anything easy for her in this story. But she does show him that love, affection, and commitment can change the future you want. I have to be honest, I am hoping because of the time era that Georgia starts us on that we are going to get more of this family. Rather it is Luca's brothers and Emilia's sisters, or the second generation...

    Very emotionally twisted romance!

Oh, Georgia! Let me grab my torchlight. When did you go so deeply into the dark? Love and conscience have no value in the dealings and barterings of New York's elite criminal families. Thus, when Emilia Bellini chooses to marry for love instead of honouring a decades old promise made by her parents, her slighted betrothed teaches her a lesson that no one in the entire Mafia world would soon forget. Emilia responds by vowing retribution against Luca Rossini, while pretending to give him everything his heart desires. I love the directness and clarity with which Georgia Cates writes her characters. Emilia is a realistic mix of smart and romantic, kind and ruthless, patient and imperious. You can truly see all her different sides as she navigates herself through hostile territory. For his part, Luca is a despicable crime boss who still manages to come across as an insecure schoolboy at times. He is laser focussed on his goal of winning Emilia's love and having a happy family with her. But. Is it too late? This was a captivating read, sparking so many different emotions from revulsion and guilt to humour and lust. The whole gamut and more!

    Couldn't put this story down!

This story hits you from the get-go! First I loved the time frame of when this story took place! I was having some flashbacks to my young girl days reading this.  Second, the soundtrack for this story, I loved how the music played into the evolution of Emilia and Luca. Oh my me, Luca Rossini...this is a character you are going to hate to love.  But with Ms. Cates phenomenal storytelling skills, you are going to realize that Luca is redeemable, he is a true mafia man and will stop at nothing to get what he wants.  And what he wants is the betrothal that was promised to him years ago. Emilia is grace under pressure.  She is steel wrapped in silk.  She is strong when she has to be and knows when to bend when she must.  She has plans, revenge and vengeance is what spurs her on her quest for justice for her family. The chemistry between Emilia and Luca is on fire!  The line is almost transparent between love and hate between them. If you are looking for an angsty, dark and steamy tale, look no further than this new story from Georgia Cates!

    Throw out your Expectations

Throw out your expectations as you go into this books. Whatever you think it is going to be, it's not. It's more. As you start the book Georgia has a warning for us to give Luca Rossini a chance, as he clearly needs one... Set in 1978 the book has a different feel to your typical romance, which is a nice touch. An arranged marriage dark mafia book. I don’t want to give anything away. Just do yourself a favor and go and read it now to find out for yourself. EXPERT “Giving him an heir means getting pregnant, which obviously means having sex.” “Which is unfortunate but necessary.” Nothing about last night or this morning was unfortunate.
