8 military novellas, 1 great cause! 4.25 stars!

WAY OF THE WARRIOR anthology May 5, 2015 512 pages Romance: Contemporary, Anthologies CHARITY / BENEFIT! ** Provided by Netgalley in Exchange for an Honest Review. ** -- MY THOUGHTS -- Judging a Book by it's Cover: Initial thought is that it looks like a teen audience targeted movie poster (ie: Karate Kid, Peaceful Warrior). Still, the design as well as the authors caught my eye. It being a benefit book reeled me in. The synopsis is awfully vague, but I suppose it needs to be in this format. Looking Deeper: Out of all of these talented authors, it's hard to believe that the only one that I've read before is Julie Ann Walker. ----- HOT AS HELL (Deep Six, # 0.5) - Julie Ann Walker A secretary to a foreign ambassador and a SEAL captain who's team is assigned to protect them spent a sizzling night together. Then he was relocated when the immediate threat vanished. Only now, the embassy is attacked and only Harper and the ambassador are in residence with a skeleton crew of Marines. It's up to Michael and his team to save the day and convince Harper that there was an undeniable connection between him and her. Heat Level: 3 ~ Score: 4.6 ~ Stars: 5 * IN PLAIN SIGHT (Elite Force, # 4.5) - Catherine Mann Gavin and Stacy had a childhood past and teen love behind them when he was medically discharged from the Air Force after his helicopter was shot down and he returned home to work as a 9-1-1 emergency operator and took her call one night. She'd married, then divorced, an abusive, obsessive man with wealth and influence that will stop at nothing to have her back or make it so no one else ever does. Heat Level: 3.5 ~ Score: 4.3 ~ Stars: 4 * TORN (Protect and Serve, # 0.5) - Kate SeRine Sadie and Joe, shared an incredible bond since childhood. Joe's returned from war, he's broken and damaged inside and out from an IED explosion that nearly ended his life. He would have given up, too, if it weren't for Sadie. She's got a stalker that's escalating from poems to bloody roses left in her car (and the dead rabbit used, in Joe's mailbox). He's determined to keep himself together enough to protect and keep Sadie safe from a madman at any cost. Heat Level: 3.5 ~ Score: 4.3 ~ Stars: 4 * WAR GAMES (Endgame Ops, # 0.5) - Lea Griffith This prequel features Rook, a wrongfully-imprisoned Delta Force combat soldier, and CIA operative, Vivi. Her brother served with Rook and Rook was framed for turning on and killing his team, although Michael's last words to Vivi said otherwise. Now she's gone rogue to fulfill her brother's dying wish. Heat Level: 4 ~ Score: 3.9 ~ Stars: 4 * TY AND THE MARINE (Justiss Alliance, # 3.5) - Tina Wainscott Kristy's a model with a violent stalker. Griff is a disfigured Marine veteran. The security agency protecting Kristy have come to Griff's family retreat to stage a mock reality competition show to try to lure the madman out and catch him before he can hurt anyone again. Although there are obvious back stories with the secondary couples in this novella, it does not give you a sense of feeling lost. Ms Wainscott does a nice job of quickly introducing you to the characters and giving you just enough to be comfortable with them without over-sharing and allowing it to take over the small amount of room allotted for Griff and Kristy's story. Heat Level: 4 ~ Score: 4.5 ~ Stars: 4.5 * NSDQ (Night Stalkers, # 6.6) - M.L. Buchman Lois was a Spec Ops helo pilot until an RPG caused her to forcibly land her bird and lose a foot as a result. Kendall Clark was a specialist for the helicopter company. He's been a bit hung up on Lois for about two years now. Heat Level: 3 ~ Score: 3.8 ~ Stars: 4 * SEALed WITH PASSION (West Coast Navy SEALs, # 3.5) - Anne Elizabeth Jonah's a SEAL on leave after a mission in Africa had gone bad. Alisha's best friend is married to one of Jonah's best buddies. She's also the person he had a scorching night with a handful of years back. Now back in the same place at the same time for the completion of their mutual friends' house, they'll be forced to face one another and the feelings they've been harboring. Heat Level: 2.5 ~ Score: 3.7 ~ Stars: 4 * HOME FIRE INFERNO (Troubleshooters, # 17.5) - Suzanne Brockmann This was the only story in the collection where I felt a little confused and a lot lost. There were at least a dozen characters, singled and paired, that make an appearance in this book that obviously were introduced to the readers in earlier installments. I was not sure who's story it really was meant to be... was there a new relationship still to form or was this a small snippet from a previous couple - it was hard to say for sure. Heat Level: 1 ~ Score: 4.5 ~ Stars: 4.5 Each micro-novella comprised of a member of our armed forces and their love interest. Most were the perfect blend of action and romance. Average Heat Level: 3 ~ Average Score: 4.2 ~ Average Stars: 4

    Way of the Warrior

Yea! I had to get this book. Suzanne Brockman has a story in it. Julie Ann Walker has a story in it. And all the proceeds go to The Wounded Warrior Project. Seems like a win on several levels! So I got 5 great stories and thee money goes to a worthy cause.

    Oh my

I loved the short stories in this anthology - not the usual hero to the rescue in a dangerous situation but rather the hero coping with the aftermath of having lived a military life and the consequences of that life. Nearly all the main characters have been honorably discharged with life-changing injuries but still manage to find their HEA. Those still serving demonstrate the importance of mateship and honour. Well worth reading; even more so when you consider the programs the profits are directed towards and well-deserving of our support as readers.
