    Well-written and thought-provoking

This book made me think about how I perceive family and ambition. While it was clear Eileen has good intentions, it often felt like she was more interested in an idealized life and family - which made the turns of events even more heartbreaking. Eileen is not always likeable, but I don't think she has to be. This is a well-written generational drama that helps us realize what we shouldn't take for granted.

Good story line but continued on WAY too long

I really liked the story, although it was melancholy and always left me feeling a bit down as I closed my Kobo, however, the worst part was that it went on and on with minutia and trivial detail. I kept thinking if I could remove all of the fluff, I would have ended it in half the time or less. Narrative that did not add to the book in my opinion. It was though an excellent portrayal of the family lives and situations that most of us find ourselves in and the cold, harsh reality of life. If it wasn't for all the superfluous material, I would have given it a 4.5, however, 3 is best I can do.

    Amazing read

I never normally pick up books like this, I'll give it a glance and put it back down. But this came highly recommended by Misha Collins who had such praises for it that I had to read this myself and I am so glad that I did. It was a little slow in the beginning and I had thought why am I reading this but as it goes on, I suddenly found I couldn't put it down and towards the end I was crying so hard. It brought back all the emotions I felt and had gone through watching my dad deteriorate and it was incredibly emotional and moving. I highly recommend it, it was an amazing read and I loved the protagonist's hopes through even the toughest times and her ability to deal with everything as it happens.

OFFERS QUITE AS INSIGHT INTO CAREGIVING

well written-pulls the reader into vignettes from one's own life which are uncomfortably familiar and which are not foreboding a similar future

    Çlose to home!

Very real , insightful and thought provoking; personal enough for me to have an emotional response. Sometimes knocking too much at my front door!
